Steve Bruce (now unemployed)

Awful news to wake up to.

It's becoming clearer and clearer that Ashley and Bruce are getting relegated on purpose. No idea why but I've never seen this before.

Yeah, its hard to feel anything but that. Bruce's unbelievable decisions for starting lines up and subs, lack of tactics then post-match comments, then its obvious to absolutely everyone we are going down, but Ashley sticks with him.

Obviously cant be, but can only hope a sale is agreed regardless of league, and the FA will not stop a sale, whereas the PL did. Still, no way that can be the case.

Maybes Ashley knows he's made his money from NUFC and literally doesnt care what league we are in.

100% gone

you've said this with absolute certainty 3 or 4 times now tonight?

what or who do you know Ben?

I got told yesterday that Bruce's agent contacted Charnley this week with an offer to negotiate a pay off with reduced terms, it looks like Ashley has knocked that back today with his early morning call

No way that would have happened before the Brighton game

Christ

Fancy keeping a shite manager running your business into the ground and who doesn’t want the be there in the job.

I have to say, he’s looked defeated in every interview given this week. The tone was decidedly different, so it makes some sense. I wonder if Ashley is hoping he’ll resign instead...

 Unbelievable but actually not unbelievable that he's not been fired into the fucking sun. Ashley doesn't want a manager that wants improvement, ambition, talk about it in the press and get fans against him for doing so. He wants a grateful yes man, grateful to be in a job, sucking his cock. It'll cost the club its Premier League status and for even thinking about appointing him in the first place nevermind sacking him the club deserves it. Absolutely embarrassing and totally unavoidable.

Honestly, what rationale is there to keep him?

Has there been a manager in the PL with a worse run that’s kept their job?

What should really be worrying Ashley is the lack of fight from the players.  Bruce clearly has lost the dressing room - they want him gone as much as the fans.

Aye. None of them look interested. And Jones isn’t seen as the main man, clearly, so they’re getting mixed messages

I mean, there hasn’t been much point watching us since Rafa left. But I genuinely can’t be arsed anymore.

If they sacked the useless twat. At least there may have been a bit of a reaction and maybe a tiny bit of optimism. Instead we’ve just rolled over and accepted relegation.

I don’t follow us in the media like I used to. But the lack of comments and quotes from players speaks volumes. Only seems to be Shelvey praising the manager. No rallying calls or comments from any of the senior players. Just seems like from top to bottom, nobody gives a shit.

Imagine being that shit at your job and still having the brass neck to go in and say 'aye, I'm pants at this so let's be fair about it and I'll piss off for two million quid.'

Honestly, I had no idea what our final 9 games were apart from Sheffield Utd and Fulham in the last 2 as those were potentially where fans would return. Then, I read the BBC Football piece on Bruce getting Ashley's backing today and it listed our run in.

Fuck me, I can't see a win in any of those games, be it with Bruce or Jones. Even with Howe, I find it hard to see how we can escape. Rafa could safe us maybe but he's said he ain't coming back with Ashley still here.

He needs to resign, but that would require being principled and having a spine. So we're stuck with him as Ashley won't want to pay him off. Will be a miracle, with ASM or Wilson plinh something out of the bag to keep us up.

Anyone watched the latest Under the Cosh podcast with Rowan Vine,  last 10 mins of part 1 and the first 20 mins of part 2 cover his time under Bruce at Birmingham,  fair to say he's not impressed with him, basically calls him a shithouse and crap manager so seems a pretty good judge!!

From the outside I'm surprised. I'm well versed in Ashley not caring one iota about improvement, ambition etc but I thought the distinct threat of him losing potential millions in any sale would force him into action.

I know you will get the conspiracy theories that he hates Geordies and wants us to suffer, but the reality is probably more mundane. He knows nothing about football, and being thin skinned he only hires toadies and friends to look after the club. That's why we had Llambias, a casino manager, and now Charnley who's more of a PA, again no football background to speak of given the responsibility of running a football club.

The pair of them most likely don't really have any idea where to turn next. When you are ringing Joe Kinnear or Graham Carr for advice then you can understand why they are sitting on their hands hoping it all goes away.

Very little of what he does at Newcastle United makes any rational sense. Just makes it all the more infuriating.

Pardew essentially had a job for life (even when his position was untenable to the point of him not being able to enter the technical area without getting boo'd and forced to sit down) and Bruce likely has the same unless he decides to quit. It's inexplicable but that's just the way Ashley is.

Absolutely nothing can or will change this.

I also think it suggests relegation isn't necessarily a big deal financially. Not in the way it's sold as being anyway.

I don't care about people having no experience. Sure Charnley had no experience when he was appointed, but now he has the experience so that excuse no longer washes, and he's still shit and still under no threat of being replaced.

Anyone can gain experience. Not everyone gains competence and at this club a lack of competence isn't a hindrance to continued employment and that's why we never move towards.
