Anyone starting to think this has been dragging on a bit long now?  I mean it does seem a while.

To be honest, I'd not really thought about it like that before. You're right, it has been going on a while now.

Ignoring the fact it's Pete Graves, the actual summing up is rather accurate.

Fuck Leeds.  Shit club, shit fans, shit city.

I don't mind the city.  I just remember being down there for a friendly around 10(?... Fraser Foster howler) year ago, stayed after the game, missed our train home as we met a few 'decent' fans and had drinks, ended up getting set about by the same cunts as the night went on and more of them appeared.

Understand we all have this type of fan, but it left a bitter taste, therefore, cunts the lot of them

Before that I didnt give a shit about them.

That was a regular thing in Leeds . Don't know if it still holds but in the 80s/90s/00s they had an above average number of compmete knacker fans and a particular dislike for us that even spread away from the football.

Also we have a depot there and nowt to do with football, they are known throughout the country in our trade as being arseholes.

We once stopped in Leeds for a night out after an away hammering at Man U in the 80s and the same thing happened, opposite the train station. Ended up with an image of a coin embedded on the side of my nose from some twats ring. Fucking arseholes the lot of them.

We had it on a 21st, a stag doo and just a night out with a mate who was at uni there. As soon as they heard our accents you could feel the atmosphere change..  Liverpool it was just around the football, other nights were fine, but Leeds, horrid, long time ago now mind, could be different. Hope so as the city itself was ok with the best Indian deli/Lunch/Snack place ever.

We had a bad one at Liverpool as well actually, we were in a bar right at the ground (arkles I think) before the game, absolutely sound, knocked us back after the game and sent us along the road to the flat iron, kind of bar that still has sawdust on the floor and the piano stops when you walk in  long story short we ended up standing outside surrounded by about 20 young'ns launching bottles etc... Wasnt just us, there was a few toon fans directed to that bar. Liverpool has always been one of my most hated, and again I understand we all have prick fans, but that rubberstamped my hatred for them.

Had similar in Liverpool, licked our arses till they had us massively outnumbered then it kicks off, both sides of Liverpool Red and Blue. I think Brummie said he'd had similar there and I've heard it round the country. Its just on Football days though, other nights there had been fine. Not Leeds though. As I say it was a while so hopefully not like that now.

Went to Liverpool on a two week course.  I've visited most cities in the uk and never felt as threatened as I did in Liverpool.  Despise the place.

Anyone got any thoughts on Leicester? Seemed a bit of a nothing place to me when I went, proper generic British town.

Couple of decent bars, some good Indian restaurants. The mrs went to uni there but neither of us would rush back.

More feisty than the likes of West Brom, Derby or Wolves round Filbert Street back in the 70s/80s.

I find that a bit mental, Liverpool in my (recent) experience is a brilliant city and with a much friendlier atmosphere on nights out than in Newcastle

Yeah the year we stopped up under Keegan on the last day was mental. If I remember rightly that lad had his eye put out when they invaded the pitch.

Crazy times but what a buzz away days used to be back then.

Was always a bad away day for bother. Remember that they had netting up as their lot used to throw sharpened coins.

I was only in Liverpool briefly but i thought it was great. Felt welcomed on a night out and the next day when we accidentally walked into an Everton pub while my s/o had a Liverpool scarf on.

Honestly surprised how willing northerners are to call other northern cities shit. Particularly when people in the south seem to think northern cities are rundown hell holes when they've never even stepped foot in most of them. The ones I've been too are great and i wish more people would visit them to see.

Boro , Stoke ... its usually the little places that are the worst

Aye as anyone at Stoke away in league cup 96 will confirm, Wednesday night we took 6500 down absolute hell on all night. Took a snide blow on way into ground and had to use the gear lock to fend off some big baldy cnut after the match. Can laugh about it now but in all my years home and away never seen anything like it, running battles all over after match.

Places like Barnsley and Carlsile were always a bit mental. The locals coming down from the hills with their pitchforks etc to have a go and police who were outnumbered and didnt have a clue how to handle things. Quite eye-opening when you're a 14/15yr old and great tales in school on Monday.

I was hospitalised that night.

(Nowt to do with the match, suspected blood clot on the lung, symptoms actually caused by screaming for a penalty or something at SJP the previous weekend)

We were at that one. Won 4-0 I remember.  Atmosphere was hostile from the moment we arrived. We were driving around looking for the ground (it was the old Victoria Ground not the one they have now) and wound the window down to ask a couple of lasses where the ground was. "Fuck off you Geordie bastards" came the response and we knew from then on it was going to be one of those nights. Finally found somewhere to park and went for a drink. No Newcastle fans allowed anywhere. Headed to a burger van instead. My mate bought a burger and didn't even get to take a bite of it when a Stoke fan walked up to him and knocked it straight out of his hands. Headed to the ground after that. Remember being funneled down an alleyway separated by a mesh fence. Stoke fans on the other side trying to climb over it to get to us. Finally got into the ground and it was the most intimidating atmosphere I've experience in over 35 years of watching NUFC.

Came out the ground afterwards and you knew what was coming. We got chatting to a QPR fan who had travelled up from London especially to watch Les Ferdinand. Next thing we knew about 50 Stoke fans came charging over and started laying into the 5 of us. Somehow we managed to fight them off and ran back down towards the direction we'd came from. This meant trying to dodge punches and kicks from oncoming home fans though. Finally got to relative safety and witnessed a Newcastle minibus being turned over onto its side. We were then given our own personal police escort back to Stoke covered in blood and ripped clothes. Not a very pleasant journey home!

Never been back to Stoke since.
