54
Not that it wasn't obvious, but the club have confirmed that Eales is leaving later in the month following a hand-over of duties: https://www.newcastleunited.com/en/news/darren-eales-confirms-departure Quote Darren Eales will formally step down from his role as Newcastle United's Chief Executive Officer in September following the appointment of David Hopkinson as the club's new CEO. The club announced in September 2024 that Darren would be stepping down from his position for health reasons but would continue to lead Newcastle United's executive team until a successor was appointed. Following David's appointment, Darren will conduct a comprehensive handover process before bringing his three successful years at St. James' Park to a close. Darren arrived at St. James' Park in August 2022, just ten months after the club's change in ownership. He played a vital leadership role in a period of significant progression on and off the pitch, culminating in Newcastle United winning its first major domestic trophy for 70 years in March 2025 and securing UEFA Champions League qualification in two of the last three seasons. Darren said: "On behalf of my family and I, I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone connected to this special football club for welcoming us into the Newcastle United family. "To all supporters, staff, players, coaches and ownership, you have made my three years here so incredible and I'm immensely proud of what we have achieved together. "I have made memories that will stay with me forever, and I'm also excited about what the future holds and the successes the club can go on to achieve. "I want to warmly welcome David Hopkinson as the club’s new CEO. Newcastle United is in great hands, and I’d like to wish David and the executive team every success as the club continues on the next part of its exciting journey." sushimonster85
Now he needs to be empowered to make the big decisions without constantly needing to go back to PIF. Otherwise the same issues (namely timelyness in decision making) will persist.

All the best to him and I think it's a real credit that he's tried to do the best for the club by staying on while we found a successor and now doing a proper handover, despite having what is clearly a very serious condition.
