Think his tenure is completely epitomised by how he's handled Lascelles.

 

Quite easily could have been a rift in the camp when the club captain barely gets picked for 2 years

 

Instead he's continuously praised him in the media, established that he's still club captain and got him to produce 3 unbelievably good performances in the space of a week against elite opposition despite barely playing for two years

When you look at Ten Hag's treatment of Maguire compared to Howe and Lascelles. Chalk and cheese. Both very similar scenarios and look at the difference.

Aye excellent man management and soft skills.

 

It's not "cool" to have that as one of a manager's main attributes but it makes a world of difference. The atmosphere in the dressing room sounds superb. A team that is up for it vs. a team that isn't - will always win. The commitment Howe gets from the team is A1.

Would also add that last night must have been special for Graeme Jones.

 

I know for some reason quite a few on here don't like him but he's clearly an integral part of the coaching staff and he must have loved last night.

 

He was even singing along to Hey Jude during the lap at the end

Its so nice to scan over this thread, when we had lost to Man City, Liverpool and Brighton. Some were so very fickle.

Results are not always going to go our way. In sport you cannot win every single game. But lets not forget how awesome this man is, and what he has achieved. Even in the rough times. He is our manager.

Probably the 500th time 'tactical masterclass' has been mentioned in here.  But it really was.  

 

The absolute stones on him to press that high against these, leaving the back 4 up against 4 elite attacking players basically all night and having the midfield pushed right up, leaving some big gaps to exploit.  Wow.

 

It seemed like every time we went to press aggressively, it was the right time to do so and it worked or at least caused enough panic for them to lose it a few passes later.  They would often gift us possession back when not actually under significant pressure at the time.  4-5 times in the first half we won it back after a good spell of pressing and they just made an unforced error due to the relentless nature of the front three/six.  

 

The defensive line was high at times and they actually caused us some bother when going back to front.  But it just meant we could compress everything and make it hard for them to pass through us.  They didn't seem to have an answer for it 

 

Then when we had to sit in deep and defend.  We were solid and compact (Rafa TM) and made them work for pretty much every chance they managed to create.  A lot of sideways and nothing possession from them.

Why don't people like Jones?

 

That stint he had when he first came in and Bruce was using his diamond formation kept us from being relegated.

 

Think he's a valuable piece of the staff. Has a lot of really good experience from his time with Martinez and Belgium too

Same as Lascelles he was apologetic on behalf of Ashley if i remember correct?

 

Was not aware there were people who still had some resentment towards him, and assumed most people had let bygone be bygone. He's clearly an important figure with both playing and coaching team.

He's taken players to levels I don't even they would have dreamed were possible. 

 

He obviously didn't do it single-handed because Schar, Trippier, and Burn were all great too, but watching Jamaal Lascelles bodying PSG's attack has to be one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen on a football pitch.

Hard to remember, but Lascelles was a very promising defender at 22/23. So much so that he became captain of the team. He had some rough years under Bruce but it looks like Howe is getting the potential he showed back then out of him.

In spite of last night, I don't think we can give to much credit to Eddie Howe for the performance.

 

You need to consider that the team won't really have adopted his style yet. We're only two years in and we'll still largely be piggybacking on Steve Bruce's vision.
