KaKa
We've been linked with James Maddison as well as Grealish. Seen a fair bit of Grealish, but not really Maddison. Just watched his season highlights with Norwich and he looks very very impressive. Stats wise he had a far more productive season than Grealish, and so quite surprised he isn't getting quite the same amount of hype. He really looks a fantastic attacking midfielder. Pretty exciting for England who have not really produced these type of natural number 10s of late to have these two coming through. They are really young too, but have got a lot of playing experience in the Championship, which is great for them and England. Would be a real shame if they join a prem club that doesn't continue to give them ample playing time. Newcastle would have been a fantastic option for either in that regard, but unfortunately it doesn't appear we can compete with the fees others will offer. Infinitely Content
Yeah Maddison had a fantastic season and looks a really good player. Had a good game against Chelsea in the cup too iirc. Would cost a lot to get Norwich to part with him so soon I reckon (only been in the first team for a year).

Can't believe that was his first season at that level, and he performed so well. Well ... I guess Norwich is a team we have actually successfully done business with recently, without upsetting them with pathetic bids, so who knows.
Away Toon
Zaha realistic? Have to hope that this a hypothetical question.
Astroblack
Every year there's a team that buys a rival player. Liverpool and Everton have been doing it recently. We can do it.
afar
Wonder if Palace will be able to hang onto Zaha, surprised there's been no gossip about him moving yet.

We can do it. baby steps, lets start with buying a player first then think about graduating to beating teams that actually give a fuck to the signing of players

LoveItIfWeBeatU
https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/rafa-benitez-learns-could-shop-14783650 Rafa Benitez learns he could have to shop in the bargain basket again this year Toon boss Rafa Benitez understood to be fully aware of this summer's transfer budget By Lee RyderChief Sports Writer 06:00, 15 JUN 2018 Rafa Benitez is believed to have been told he will be operating at the lower end of the transfer market this summer. Mike Ashley said publicly last summer that he could not compete with the Premier League’s big boys and that message is understood to have been repeated and transmitted back to the manager again this summer. And while a big chunk of TV money is due next month in Newcastle’s bank account, the Magpies will continue to cut their cloth accordingly. Despite the Magpies not agreeing on a contract extension with the former Real Madrid and Liverpool boss it has been business as usual for the Toon boss with the 58-year-old eager to push on with summer recruitment plans. But he knows that he can’t expect a clutch of marquee signings and will instead look to find a striker, right-back, midfielder, and winger with what is thought to be a modest budget. Ideally, Benitez wants to sign four or five new faces - to go with permanent arrival Martin Dubravka - in time for the start of pre-season training on July 2. However, he is facing a race against time to get that amount of deals done and after learning that Newcastle aren’t prepared to spend big this summer he has had to assess his options and take a long hard look at his transfer shortlist. Benitez may also have to wait until some of the bigger clubs have done their spending to see where he stands on signing loan targets such as Kenedy or Ruben Loftus-Cheek of Chelsea. Last summer, Benitez accepted he wasn’t going to get a major transfer kitty and finished the window with signings from the bargain bucket with Joselu coming in from Stoke City for £5million and Javier Manquillo for around £4million. Newcastle insisted they would be right behind Benitez earlier this summer when managing director Lee Charnley said: “But we have backed the manager, and we will keep backing the manager, as the owner made clear in his statement.” Benitez has not made a single permanent signing in any of his two January windows and endured a slow start and disappointing finish to the 2017 summer window. And it is now understood that Benitez will have to fight to get signings done this summer with a kitty similar to last summer on offer plus potential additional funds if the likes of Chancel Mbemba, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Jack Colback are sold. So around £40m like last season? I think that £40m included player sales so the actual budget before sales is probably lower. Hopefully there will be some good players available for loan so Rafa can bring some decent quality to the squad.

thenige
Just feel the majority of players we will end up signing this summer will either have been massive failures somewhere or only people with an encyclopedic knowledge of Football Manager are going to know. Taylor Swift
Our finances are terrible if we can only spend £40m plus sales. We must have pretty much negligible commercial income. Definitely run by idiots.
AyeDubbleYoo
I'm not well informed on finances but I would've thought we would have loads to spend just based on the TV money.

Kanji
Literally only spending money when tv money hits the bank account despite it being guaranteed. Owner won’t front the tv money due early to get deals done and club won’t use any credit or debt facilitates to fund transfers. I’m sorry, bunch of absolute fuckwits.
