He’s good but I wouldn’t want him as our only midfield signing. Wouldn’t add the steel or protection that we need.

But he does retain possession, shields the ball really well and his athleticism alone would be a huge asset to us in possession.

Walking into this team means better than Shelvey and Hayden, so aye he would

Not convinced he'd make us that much of a better team though based on how he played when he was here before

He’s one of the top 20 midfielders in the world so you’re way fucking off.

2 CB's

2 Full backs

2 Mids

2 strikers (I guess one can be Lingard as a secondary striker/winger/10)

If we have as rumored 6 lined up that's probably sacrificing a full back and a midfielder. Injuries might change that though.

Premier league should up the registered squad size for covid.

You all need to stop evaluating players like Gini based on how he did under McLaren and Rafa.

Quick read of Eddie Howe's tactics and philosophy. http://outsideoftheboot.com/2017/10/06/tactical-philosophy-eddie-howe/

Look at one of the subheadings. "High pressing".

"Howe instructs his players to close down the opponent whenever they have the ball, if the opposition is in control and just maintaining possession, the nearest player must go to press than player, but if an opponent has found themselves in an uncomfortable position where they are likely to make a mistake that Bournemouth can pounce on, this is where Howe’s tactical genius comes into play. Howe uses pressing triggers, they vary from the opponents playing a poor pass to the opponent taking a poor touch, both will trigger instant pressing from Bournemouth and overload the space to limit the opponent’s options."

Guess which midfielder is available and who got trained in high press and looking out for pressing triggers for four-five years under Jurgen Klopp?

From the same article "The fullbacks push up high to support the attack, either by overlapping the winger or coming inside to give an extra passing option."

Guess which fullback is available, wants to return to England,  and is really good at pushing up high to support the attack or coming inside to give an extra passing option. Also can play both left and right back.

There seems to be a method to your transfer targets. Gini will help Howe install the high press. Trippier will help him design plays based on attacking threats from fullbacks.

I was thinking more to cover Wilson’s injury initially but yeah, long term there.

When Wilson went off ASM barely pressed the CBs meaning Maguire could pick passes to the advancing FBs all day.

Perez is excellent at pressing.

It’s going to be a replacement for Wilson not to play with him unfortunately.

Getting a good striker at the best of times is difficult, when it’s the January window and you’re bottom of the league it’s a massive ask.

Be interesting to see how they approach this, it’s going to take big big money to get a proven forward when we’ve also got other massive holes to plug.

They could take a punt on the lad from Blackburn or that Cabral from Basle who looks good, but neither are guaranteed. Will they go nuclear and make a huge bid for a Sarr or Vlahovic, I certainly wouldn’t rule it out going to be very interesting.
