Good luck to her, but ACLs can be very tough to recover from, especially if you've had multiple. Probably not relevant with it being a totally different environment, but there's been 2 female wrestlers within WWE who have had multiple ACLs and it's basically killed their careers.

ACLs in women’s football are rampant. Remember reading articles about it and how they can’t really figure out why they’re so much more prevalent in the women’s game. In the men’s game players come back very well nowadays, although it can take a good 12 months for them to get back to the same level. No idea if the women are getting the same quality of surgery though

Maybe they don't have the same strength in surrounding muscle as the men? Not sure.

With ACLs, I'm sure I read that women land slightly differently when jumping in a way which puts more pressure on the joint. Only slightly, but enough to make a difference when your a profession athlete. Also, a lot of professional footballers simply weren't playing as much football during important growth years (10/11) due to less opportunities to keep up with how much the intensity of the women's game has increased in the past 10 years.

Think I read there was a fair bit of research and evidence linking these injuries with menstrual cycles as well, due to estrogen levels and the effect that has on ligaments

Was going to say the same. I was chatting with a coach about this a few months ago. He was saying when girls start their cycle in early teens etc. this is a crucial time to be cognizant about strengthening the muscles and working specifically on strengthening with care. Also have to combine that with the body growing too. I'd never heard it before but thought it was super interesting. He had seen a ton of girls do ACLs due to this in his opinion.

BBC - London City break transfer record

Firstly, this is a good indication as to what it takes to make the step-up to WSL level.

Secondly, it shows how wide-open the women's football 'loophole' is. Villa were valued at £55m so basic maths suggests that if the world record is under £1.5m the ROI in spending big on the women's team to increase it's value is substantial.

We wouldn't even need to sell all of it. Get the value up to £50m, sell 10% and that £5m will cover a nice wage rise or two (for example). As the value increases, we can keep selling 10% here and there to cover any shortfalls.

I don't agree with the principle of using the women's game like this but I also don't want us to be the only ones playing nice. This loophole will be closed sooner or later and we will regret it if we miss the boat due to our own inertia.

That's why it's essential to take the opportunity provided this season for the number of places available for promotion.

Hopefully something Hopkinson will be all over.

Weird. I mean I hope she turns out to be a real success but it did not feel like Claudia Moan was the problem last season, so why are we stocking up on goalkeepers?

Because they have no plan in place

It’s sign 10-12 players a year in random positions and hope for the best

No long term strategy (yet)

This year they should have enough to go up

They will do the same in the WSL and have a complete overhaul again.

I know they will look at at least one elite signing / game changer if and when they go up

(To make a statement!)

So we now have four keepers including the two from last season if I'm correct. Surely one, if not both of these keepers will be moving on before the transfer window ends. If not, then that is just totally stupid.

It might not be in effect for this summer, but I’m sure the new DOF will start putting in a better more long term plan.

If we do go up we’ll change the team again as they will likely want much better players who can compete at the top end.

Arsenal showing what will happen in the WSL if we don't upgrade players. They are 4-1 up against LCL, who comprehensively beat us to promotion last year. LCL have changed their whole team (16 players - I think only one of their starters today played a significant role last year), just set a record for a WSL transfer, and have used Michelle Kang's know-how and multi-club links / ownwership to recruit a damn good team. They dominated Arsenal in the opening exchanges but are still 4-1 down. It's an unfortunate illustration of the different standard of the top couple of teams in the WSL (Manchester City keep coming up short against Chelsea too, again, illustrating the dominance of the top couple).
