After some fluctuation in opinion, he’s gradually gotten faster, particularly over this weekend. Now resumed full on rapido status.

Can't wait to see how fast he is once he's completed his medical. He'll probably run to SJP for the photoshoot, faster than taking the car through the city centre traffic.

From the highlight reels I've seen (which is hardly reliable), what he might lack in pace he appears to make up for in reading of the game. He appears to come shooting out of the backline to make effective early tackles as opposing attackers receive balls into them.

I'd love to know how sports journalists even attempt to get information on transfers. Seems like agents are the only ones with any incentive to provide them with information, and even that will be designed to stoke interest or inflate a fee.

Nonsense profession for the most part.

Btw the Botman signing might indicate a persistance with a lowish block and counter-attacking approach that i'm not mad at.

From what we've seen. You don't sign Botman to defend on the halfway line.

Interesting one but not sure you're right. Comment below from liverpool fan about how it's maybe not as important as you would think, especially when you have a keeper who makes a lot of sweeping actions (Pope and Alisson make the most and furthest sweeping actions in the PL by far).

Matip is better at protecting the right hand side when TAA goes on his attacking runs.  Pace is not that big of an issue in defenders if your goalkeeper is quick of the line to snuff out danger. Also, VAR gets offside calls correct more than often. So more than pace, the ability to stick to an offside line is more important. Counterpressing managers like Klopp, Howe don't worry about playing a high line with slower defenders thanks to VAR.

The first graph in this tweet shows how good Pope is at sweeping.

I think I read somewhere that Howe is going to persist with the low block/counter attack approach for this season. It might have nothing to do with pace, and more that we just don't have good enough footballers across the pitch to play more possession based stuff.
