Could be complete coincidence and mean nothing, but anyone think the Diaby links feel similar to the way Botman went (in this window)? Started out with no one really giving us a chance, then gradually over a period of weeks it became more and more real, till it happened.

Feel like things are just starting to pick up with Diaby, and slowly it's beginning to feel more and more like it could happen.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but we should move on as he clearly isn't interested. Let him have his move to *checks notes* PSG.

My initial reaction to both links is interesting. I was far more excited by the idea of Gordon than CHO. Yet, I'm entirely aware that CHO is far more talented (skills wise) than Gordon.

I think I'm concerned that CHO would be an Atsu type signing, someone who comes in, contributes and shows flashes of what he's capable of but ultimately is too inconsistent to be a long term solution. Where as Gordon seems like someone who will be around for a long time, a Milner type if you will, a grafter, a team player, someone who will be a real asset to a squad.

To be honest, I'm not against either signing but CHO for 20m (just guessing) would be a better signing than Gordon for 35m. Right now we need quality in the final third and CHO would provide that. He seems pretty versatile too from what I've seen.

I do get this viewpoint mind. While I'm concerned whether Gordon has enough quality end product, you don't get the feeling he would just fade away after a decent season. He looks like enough of a cunt to make his presence felt over a longer period. But I think I would still rather we signed Odoi out of those two if the Diaby thing fizzles out.

Where's the market value from? Obviously some of those would cost double the value there.

Just shows how good that Osimhen is, 22 years old with a 1 in 2 goal ratio.

Can’t believe CHO is only 21, seems to have been around for years.

Made his debut (against us) having not long turned 17.

Amazing he’s never been out on loan really given Chelsea have loaned about 10,000 players out in the last 5 years.

I remember @Milanista saying that’s exactly what Milan trying to do without success. He seems to be most effective as a #10, which we haven’t really used.

And there’s a case for saying Eddie might change tactics to fit him in, but changing our whole system to accommodate one (excellent) player isn’t something I see Eddie doing (this season anyway).

Sorry if this is late.

At first, I was confused why Newcastle wanted Paqueta, but, after seeing how Howe's 433 morphs into a 4231, Paqueta could most certainly fit into your system. He's a hardworker, he's not a classic 10, I don't think those really exist anymore.

10/CAMs today are just Lampard-like players.

For Milan, for example, we use a 4231, and our CAM is used to press, since with Ibra and Giroud, our strikers aren't the most mobile. Giroud works hard, but he's not fast. We have used a CM/DM in the CAM spot to work as an anti-10, the mark and disrupt a team's regista (CDM, Pirlo-type) like Brozovic at Inter, where he literally sets the tone for the entire team.

I get the sense that Joelinton has taken up that role. However, Paqueta would be a serious upgrade. He has skill and the guile to match a workrate that would suit Howe.

Osimhen is insane. He should score more than he does. He is blindingly fast. He is relentless. He will chase after lost causes, harass defenders, the only issue is that he tends to get freakish injuries. He fractured his cheekbone last year, and the year before that he hurt his shoulder really badly. Both kept him out for several months.

He would be worth more than what is listed above. Napoli paid like 70-80m (euros) for him (on paper, at least) and Napoli should hold out for more than Darwin.

Yes, he looks like the kind of striker that would transform any team. Around £90m has been the speculative price quoted in articles;  apparently curtailing Arsenal’s interest.  We will not be paying that for anyone, unfortunately.

I think we might do a splurge at the end of the window for one or two if there's any targets that we really want. If we throw the money around now for a big name signing it could be harder to negotiate fees for the not so big name signings.

every reason why I want to sign him so badly.

For me it would have to be the right wing first i.e. Diaby.

Then, to actually transform our attacking intent, without losing any defensive force, paqueta would be immense. He could play the role willock has done (attacking central midfielder/sort of Nº10) but also offer versatility if one of the other forwards got injured.

The obvious strategy we are pursuing with regard to a striker is to find a good understudy to Callum. I really rate him as a striker and what he brings to the team, but his injury record really has been awful. He seems to get a lot of "niggles" and more important injuries each year and he´s getting no younger...
