The fact that we didn’t isn’t on him, but on Howe.

Agreed.

Whether he's a left-back or not, that was just shoddy for the second penalty incident. Can accept him being skinned like for the first, but that one he didn't show any sort of awareness (was pretty fucking obvious Ouattara would be there or thereabouts at his shoulder) and it was just a lazy swipe at the ball which he got nowhere near.

This is what I saw. Also in the previous game against West Ham where they were able to isolate him and attack the space around him on the deck. He's a defender, 1v1 he needs to be able to match his opponent. If he's getting overloaded with 2v1 then I can put the blame somewhere else.

Dan Burn is fine 1 vs 1 when there isn't space to attack in behind him. When there is he is massively exposed due to a lack of pace. Today he was exposed due to lack of pace, versus West Ham he was exposed due to a lack of folk like Gordon tracking back.

Well I agree, but that's the problem. PL teams are switched on these days, they are finding ways to isolate him.

It just feels like history repeating itself.  Teams are finding ways to isolate him, we're not covering him with the midfield like Joelinton used to do so well or Gordon when he plays.  As he doesn't track back like he used to.  He also has Botman next to him who is actually slower than Burn at top speed, I reckon.  It's a recipe for disaster.

He's banned for the next game and you'd imagine will miss another game soon for 5 yellows.  So we can see what the team looks like without him in and playing with genuine full backs.

I'd probably have him at LCB ahead of Botman at the minute.  If he has to play left back for whatever reason.  I think having Schar RCB and Thiaw LCB would give us better cover.

Howe has always referenced his height for set pieces and seems to like having a team of big lads.  But whilst that's great at set pieces.  Burn at left back and Joelinton in midfield isn't helping at all when it comes to holding onto the ball or trying to pass the ball up the pitch.

At Left back he was almost out of the team for his poor performances at the start of last season.

At CB he then managed to build his confidence and stature back up to gain an England call up.

Is anyone surprised he has then reverted back to a left back liability?

Not his fault with injuries etc but his height can't be the only reason he starts in front of Hall

If Eddie has him in there because he wants another tall player in the team, that's really fucking concerning.

Both times Burn has had prolonged runs of games at left back, it has coincided in us having a bad run of results. Eddie is too blindly loyal and seemingly obsessed with having tall players in the team, which is very Steve Bruce-esque.

Hall earned an England call up playing at LB for us FFS and he sat on the bench watching this nonsense.

Dan Burn at CB is a colossus, Dan Burn at LB is a calamity, that's all there is to it really. Thankfully, the option has been taken out of the clubs hands for the City game.

Play him at CB or don't play him at all, there's plenty of games across all competitions for him to play a fair share this season.

Would you play Trips at LB and Krafth at RB if Hall and Tino are out ?

Hall will start when his fitness level allows it. Fingers crossed that is very soon.

I think he’s OK at LB in certain games, but fatigued away against Brentford was not one of them.

Actually think we could easily have won that game if Burn had been taken off. It’s inexplicable that he was left on after the first penalty shout.

Not sure if this is true, but someone was saying to me Howe was trying to get him off?  I think there was 8-10 minutes between the 2 penalty incidents, which for me was ample time to get him off.

Maybe we need a substitutions coach.

Class at CB, but wish we'd stop hanging him out to dry at left-back.

Now Hall is back, there is absolutely no excuse for him to be playing there going forward.

Exactly this, the lad deserves better, teams continue to target our left hand side every time he plays there
