Shays Given Tim Flowers
Very light in midfield and West Ham were nicely in control for the first half. Their forwards look like a threat but lightweight. Big result today but can’t see how it’ll last. West Ham were terrible and not because of how Sunderland played. West Ham looked like relegation certainties on that second half showing, Sunderland will be in and around lower mid table/relegation when the adrenaline runs out. They'll be worse than Southampton apparently. Some shite been talked about them on here. They've spent a good amount, they set up to play on the break which suits a bottom half team in the PL and they've improved their squad and team. Every chance of staying up, every chance of taking points from us just like league one Luton did a few years ago. Anyone who wanted them up is a fool. Moose
The last 6 teams to get promoted before this season were all utterly pathetic and never stood a chance at surviving. I begrudgingly respect that Sunlun went down the Notts Forest route of building an whole new team instead of the Sheff Utd route of bending over for 38 games until cashing in the marrachute payment. Hopefully their rebuild blows up in their face and they get punted back down to the doldrums where they belong. Today has me worried that they'll survive though, not so much because they're good but because I'm concerned that the years of coasting it as midtable dross will catch up with West Ham and Wolves this year. Brentford have done their very best to weaken themselves too. The relegation scrap will be a lot more open this year. Stifler
I said it in the other games thread. The drop off in quality between our game and their game was big. There were no really runs with any kind of pace. The passing was slow, it felt like they were passing to the nearest player and not with any sort of plan. Sunderland will face tests like never before this season. I honestly think Burnley next weekend will be hard for them. It’s Burnley’s first home match, it’s a fixture that Burnley know they need to make the most out of, and Burnley will make it difficult for the lower half of the table to create chances against them. Sunderland's crowd was with them today, their first game back etc. The big test for them is how they will react when the crowd isn’t there? What happens when they go a goal down? What happens if they are on the back of a defeat in the previous game and the good buzz has gone? What happens when it gets to October/November and the weather turns, and they realise that they can either watch it at home or down the pub? For as much as their crowd can prove the difference when they are with them, like today, and against Coventry etc, they are equally a barrier when hey turn, and as we have seen so many times before from them, they do turn quite easily. They could well be joined by Weat Ham though. Their keeper was abysmal and directly at fault for two of the goals. I agree with a post earlier, that Potter could be the first manager sacked. As for the support, there were a good few groups of empty seats, and if I'm not imagining stuff I'm certain the camera panned onto a whole section of seats also empty. I don't know if this is something to do with crowd safety or segregation though. Edited August 16, 2025 by et tu brute

Sibierski
Their first three league games are literally against sides that they will be battling to stay up with (like they will all come bottom 5). Giving themselves a chance by not dropping points to them sides, but the real tough games are to come where a few defeats and the morale will sink quick.
