Been quality since he came in, would love to see him get the England number one spot for the World Cup but can’t see it. TBF Pickford is reliable for England

This. He's dropped a few clangers for Everton but cannot recall a single goal hes been at fault for for England. He was faultless in the euros bar a mad ten minute spell against Denmark where he kicked the ball straight to their players a couple of times.

Would’ve probably been a national hero for his penalty save if England had won the shootout.

Based on tonight he’d be great for England but I hate the thought of him getting any element of blame for us crashing out early.

He is mainly brilliant for England, agreed. But I thought he was massively at fault for that free kick from miles out. Denmark, was it?

Lovely strike. But it wasn’t even in the corner and his short arms/timing were shown up again.

I’d be fuming if we let one in from there. Which we regularly used to do with Elliot. He was the king of getting beaten by one well within reach.

He will be starting for England when fit. But I’m not sure it makes much difference. The team have looked awful since the Euros.

Can't remember the last clear mistake Pickford made, tbh. He's been solid for us for a long time, people go on about the "hasn't let England down" thing as though he regularly has made errors for us. Has previously but not for a long while.

Terrible timing obviously for Pope as he's usually so solid but he's had a shocker tonight.

To be honest, from the two games in this International break, he's not looked like he has for us at all, he's looked very nervous and uncomposed with the ball at feet, his positioning and commandment of the box, which has been by far his biggest strength this season, is way off. Its really odd to be honest, hopefully his form doesnt drop for us at the weekend.

Pope looked awful in that game mind........anyway onto the weekend

Need Howe to lift him after this. His confidence will be in his boots after that whole performance not just the massive rick at the end.

Thankfully Eddie is just the man to get him back on top form :)

Reputations stick and I think we've been exposed to Pickford's clangers more than any other opposition fanbase.

Agree with you though, the whole "Why does Pickford start?" question is irritating and it's irritating when it's asked about Maguire as well tbh.

Just shows the difference between international football and the PL tbh, less high balls to deal with, which Pope handles brilliantly, and other skills like shot stopping and reading of the game are more important. Not saying Pope is bad at any of those btw, but Pickford has generally risen to the challenge for England.

Who thinks Neil's more of a laugh than me?
