Not denying what you're saying comparable to young footballers, but personally I can't stand London, I think it's a grim place full of grim people and any time I've had to venture down there I've got back up North as quick as possible.

As someone who lived there for like 15 years I think it's a mixed bag. Some parts are really, really nice and some parts i'd rather just forget exist  I don't think i've been anywhere that felt like such a whiplash.

London suits some people, somewhere quieter like Newcastle will suit others. Don't begrudge anyone saying the draw of London was a big factor, if you're that way inclined I imagine being a multi-millionaire 20 odd year old living in London would be incredible [emoji38]

Most large/capital cities have good and bad areas. I was in town yesterday for work. Just around Moorgate at the office and then Farringdon for some beers. Went to a couple of old London boozers, then a decent sports bar for some of the cricket. Followed by a quality South African Braai place.

I think it is hard to generalise about London as it is fucking massive and you can travel 5 minutes and an area, the demographic and general vibe will be totally different.

Its partly the massiveness I hate.

Oh I don't disagree, I was actually going to mention how huge it is so i'm probably being unfair but decided not to  Sometimes I miss it tbf, mainly because there's just a lot more going on there than where i'm currently living.

Yeah, I live in London and am about to move back to Istanbul. I don't think I could live in a small city, and my other half (who grew up in Istanbul) certainly couldn't. Even Izmir (3 million people) feels small. Love the North-East though and like coming back up to visit (I'm here now). Each to their own I guess.

Yep. I used to hate London because I thought only of the traffic and the congestion of central London, but it's easy to forget there are several different boroughs and many of them are like little towns in themselves and you don't really need to go into central London on a day to day basis.

I used to despise the place.  Less than an hour's drive from East London.  Hour into King's Cross on the train.  But I'd rarely ever go with my family as a kid and never enjoyed it when I did.

Getting to loads of London away games when I was in my late teens/early 20's is what actually opened my eyes to it a bit more.  I've got a little'un now so no chance I'd consider it or be able to afford it.  But looking back, I wouldn't have minded living there when a lot of my mates took the jump for work and house shared.  Their careers have all taken off.  Whereas mine has sort of progressed at a pace similar to Shola in the 89th minute.

Sorry to hijack the Joao Pedro thread with the relative merits of London

Hope said last night that Newcastle had a 2 to 3 day window where they could have completed on the Pedro deal.

You paid Great British Pounds to listen to craig hope?

I attended my nephews wedding last year at Lords cricket pavilion (yes the brides dad is rich). The area is in St John's Wood and it's a lovely place. Regents Park, which is huge was just next door to our hotel is unbelievable. Some good and bad places in London.

Been to London once. Was class. Remember going In to all the posh shops, just because. Was interesting to see how these people live.

The scale of the place was insane. One of the biggest shocks was the tube. I missed one train and another came like five minutes later. Couldn’t believe this was the same public transit system, I’d heard Londoners bitching and moaning so much about.

There’s places within 10 minutes walk of Lords where you could by crack or skag easier than a pint of milk

That’s the beauty of London
