Not with rape. Basically you are guilty or got away with it in most people's eyes, because why would anyone lie about it etc.

But on flip side so many people do get away with it because multiple different reasons. Including the CPS backlog.

But no way it's a joined up effort by police for him to see out his contract FFS.

Hate talking about it as you end up either sounding like you are sticking up for rapist's or not giving the person a fair trial and feeding into the above.

Comes to mind. So maybe just see how it ends after it's been to court.

But then have articles like this saying you shouldn't really say that either.

I get what you mean, but legally there's a presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Sure if a rape charge becomes public the reputational damage could be significant.

But it's an incredibly difficult to crime to prosecute. One person's word v another's is rarely enough to hit the beyond all reasonable doubt threshold.

It's an absolute minefield.

Trying to find a reason for the timing that's not dodgy as fuck - could it be with his contract expiring they were worried he'd leave the country to join another club and had to charge to prevent that?

Maybe Arteta didn't know. Maybe he's not on Twitter or Reddit

And couldn't hear the away fans singing "She said no Thomas" and "Partey is a rapist" every week.

It’s awful, and why on earth has it taken so long to process?

Because much though we like to think we are a fair minded nation, we are still as bent as most others. Just we are more polite and proper about it.

Came across a list of British transfer records/milestones through the decades.

Highlights for me were:

Sunderland breaking the £500 barrier in 1902 and splashing the cash on Alf Common. They were rewarded for their investment as Alf also broke the £1,000 barrier when transferred to Middlesbrough three years later.

in 1922, Syd Puddefoot (I mean, c’mon…, you can practically smell the Maccasser-oiled hair) went from West Ham to Falkirk to be the first player to cost £5,500. There was evidently money to be had from Scottish football  and perhaps a more equal footing between the leagues.

Jump forward to 1957 and John Charles is off to Juventus, from Leeds United, for the princely sum of £65,000 (quite a jump in record fee as well).

Dennis Law followed suit in 1961 going to Torino for £110,000, from Manchester City. The great Martin Peters (they were all great to be fair) hopped across London (West Ham to Spurs) in 1979. Spurs breaking the £200,000 barrier to get their man.

King Kevin was the first man worth half a million, when he went to SV Hamburg from Liverpool in 1977. Trevor Francis cost more than double by 1979, Forest paying £1,180,000 to Birmingham for his services.

Other North East notables:

Bryan Robson £1.5m in 1981 (West Brom to Man Utd); Chris Waddle £4.25m in 1989 (Spurs to Marseille); and, of course, Alan Shearer £15m in 1996 (Blackburn Rovers to Newcastle United).

Mixed feelings about that. Any improvement to access is a good thing, but making one round of fixtures free to air is no solution to the problem of 'rinsing fans of every last penny'. It's a deep-rooted institutional issue which cuts across all aspects of the game.

This is classic politicking, basically doing your absolute best to make it look like your doing something when actually doing very little.

Pleased this has been confirmed

Heard a few rumours about this previously but from unreliable sauces

Should add a bit of variety to their set pieces.
