Kid Icarus
The positive is that the league is once again incredibly tight and there for the taking - something that we've exploited before. Have to admit that it feels different this season though and that we don't look like a team that needs minor adjustments to kick on like previously - we still look very much like a team having a transition season that needs more changes to progress, that might not find form until the run in, and that has a mentality issue when in the lead. It could be not that deep and just as simple as Wissa coming in, who knows, but it's not been much of an enjoyable ride so far this season, I have to admit. Superior Acuña
Only 4 points off top 5 despite everything (5 pts if ManU win tomorrow). Starting to think Liverpool are actually in play too (eg maybe we could come behind Villa but ahead of Liverpool)
Sibierski
We need to go on a run up to we play Villa, talking like 20-22 points from next 8 games. Otherwise that will be that IMO. We won’t chase down UCL if we are going deep in the cups.

janpawel
Last season I remember us being 5-5-5 after 15 games, so looking like we will be 2 points better off so far that last season Not considering the teams we've played mind

We've got to be winning these home games after that start to the season. [Updated Us -4 (down by 2). Tottenham +5 (improved by 1) Villa -1 (nc) Chelsea -4 (down by 3) ManU +4 (up 1) Our performances don't really suggest we'll do it, but we are definitely in with a shout. As I mentioned in another thread, I think Villa are probably beyond us this season, looking too good. But we could squeeze Chelsea or maybe Liverpool out of the top 5 if we have a good second half of the season. Compared with last season's results: Us -4 [nc] Villa +2 [up 3] Chelsea -6 [down 2] ManU +7 [up 3] Edited December 8, 2025 by Superior Acuña

Well they've got enough points to be there. 😁 That and the league looking absolutely crazy. One defeat could see them drop to mid table.

AyeDubbleYoo
The league is wide open, we could finish pretty much anywhere. I see only improvement on our past form so that has to bode well.

Yes, definitely Recency bias will sway people though. Before the season, after Villa spent nothing, or after the first handful of games where they were shit, everyone would have said our squad is better, now they're on a run, I'm sure loads think theirs is better I do rate the core of Tielemans, Kamara, Onana and Rogers mind

I certainly don’t think our squad is as good as theirs Jan-May last year. I personally don’t think this squad is top 5 + competing in CL good. If magically the bigger clubs tick up form their squads are far better than ours. But the mad thing is despite this bat shit crazy season we are a fluke overhead kick away from 5th place today with a horrendous away record. Had we seen out Arsenal at home we’d be in the convo! Add Rashford, Isco and Ramsey back to their squad and it's better than ours I'd agree And yeah we aren't a PL 65+ point, 60+ game team yet unfortunately I still think our squad as of right now is better than theirs though. AngelofTheFourth
We’re only 3 points off the top 5, but the real challenge is that there are 9/10 other teams all battling within the same margin for just 2/3 Champions League spots. That’s a huge pack, and most of those sides are more than capable of putting up a serious fight. What’s interesting is that nobody this season has managed to put together a 6+ game winning run, which shows just how competitive and unpredictable the league has been. (Villa could be the first if they win their next match) but overall it feels like consistency is the biggest hurdle for everyone. Given how tight the race is, I’d honestly be satisfied with a top 8 finish and a Europa League spot. With so many teams in the mix, that would still be a solid achievement.
