Taylor Swift
We are way behind last season based on the same matches. It’s going to require going on an exceptional run which we don’t look anything like we’re capable of.

But had we won today we'd be 1 point from 5th and 3 from 4th. The table is that tight that even just one win can take you from bottom half to the cusp of the CL spots. It's tight as fuck this season, any team who gets a run of good results together will be up there in those spots. As bad as we've been in the league this season we're still within touching distance of an expected CL spot.

Win all our home games, it’s 53 points, then UCL at worse will be 65 and you go through our away games and confidently pick out 12 points. Even if so, it’s on us now being flawless at home. Superior Acuña
I think CL is unlikely now but still don't think it's impossible. I think prob 4 teams are uncatchable but the rest are inconsistent enough that a really good run could see us in contention. That really good run is possible, but the longer we drop points the better that run will have to be and the less likely it seems! Tbh even a 4-5 match winning streak could see us looking like being in the mix. If we match last seasons results in remaining games plus beat Everton home, West Ham home and Brighton home, then we'll be on the same points as last season... Scoot
Based on revenue and wages, we have absolutely no god given right to qualify for the champions league, let alone every season. The sooner people realise this the better.
500bhp
Once we are knocked out of the CL and the LC is done, and the inevitable defeat to Bournemouth in FA cup, we'll be back to one game per week and lots of training ground time. Expect a very strong finish to the season then, maybe getting 7th.
Jewel
I'd be happy with Europa League with next season. At least it'd be a competition we could realistically win. The Champions League has felt a bit meh at times this season. The format doesn't help. Maybe that will change once we get to the knockout stages. Providing Villa don't win it, I'm definitely hoping for a Europa League campaign moreso than another CL one. The format is still absolute garbage but at least we'd be trudging through the group stage with a view to having a run at the final, as opposed to being also-rans. Apropos of nothing I'd be in favour of removing the block on teams from the same nation facing each other. Not so much in the interest of spectacle, but when you've got six teams from the strongest league each playing eight games, it works heavily in their favour to avoid each other. I'm not sure what justification there is for that exemption when there's so many fixtures.
r0cafella
Europa league sounds good on paper but I think we very much in our growth phase, during this phase we need to build ourselves up to be competitive with the big hitters and this means we need CL revenue. Optimistic Nut
Sorry if this has been asked, if Villa finish top 5 (assuming England is one of the top 2 again in the co-efficient standings) and also win the Europa League, does a CL spot drop to 6th? We are not getting to CL every season, we are overachieving already with Howe. This season City, Arsenal and Villa are running away. I guess Liverpool will join them. Unlikely that we get the 5th spot given our away form. Europa League spot is realistic.

Any form of Europe and I’m buzzing. There’s usually 7 spaces (maybe 8 depending on cup winners / extra spot for UCL) and if all sky 6 qualify as they should do really giving their wealth, there’s only 1-2 spaces left which is between us and Villa, without anyone else gate crashing from a really good season (like Forest). The College Dropout
I don’t expect European football next season. i think we’ll finish 7-9 probably 8th or 9th. We don’t have the alchemy of a team to finish top 6. Arsenal City Chelsea too strong of a squad. Expect Liverpool and Villa to be there or thereabouts. I can’t see us finishing above all of the rest of the field. If we crash out CL in the group stage or strengthen in January that may change. But we fucked it in the summer. This is just overly negative. You're looking at our away form so far, which has been awful, and extrapolating it over the full season. What's to say we won't turn that around? We've won 1 away game out of 8 (drawing 3) and we have 11 left. 4 of those we're unlikely to get much but we don't know that, and of the other 7 I'd be very surprised if we don't rack up a good few wins. It's far too early to say how high we'll finish, which is why people are saying how close we are to 5th with over half of the season left. Because that's actually the only thing that matters. Time and time again people on here make predictions about various things far too early and end up being utterly wrong. That all said gun to my head I don't think we'll qualify for the CL this season, too much change and adversity. But we 100% still could if enough things were to click into place for us.
