That’s a huge pack, and most of those sides are more than capable of putting up a serious fight. What’s interesting is that nobody this season has managed to put together a 6+ game winning run, which shows just how competitive and unpredictable the league has been. (Villa could be the first if they win their next match) but overall it feels like consistency is the biggest hurdle for everyone. Given how tight the race is, I’d honestly be satisfied with a top 8 finish and a Europa League spot. With so many teams in the mix, that would still be a solid achievement. Villa are putting on a serious winning run.
The Prophet
Our run until the end of January is still excellent. Lots of points to be had if we've turned the corner away from home.
Nucasol
My worry is we run out of energy in January. Would love an FA Cup run but if we beat Fulham and get into the next stage of the UCL, it’s likely another four more games in two months on top of the already packed schedule. TRon
I think the chances of an automatic qualifying spot have gone now. Shame as if we'd held on for the last five mins yesterday we would have had a great chance. Just need to make sure we get into the play offs by hook or by crook now. As I mentioned in another thread, I think Villa are probably beyond us this season, looking too good. But we could squeeze Chelsea or maybe Liverpool out of the top 5 if we have a good second half of the season. Compared with last season's results: Us -4 [nc] Villa +2 [up 3] Chelsea -6 [down 2] ManU +7 [up 3] Just to keep this up ManU +8 (up 1) Tottenham +5 (nc) Villa +2 (nc) Chelsea -6 (nc) Us -7 (down 3) Edited December 16, 2025 by Superior Acuña

The Prophet
We could also get better mind. It wouldn't be remotely surprising if we turn Chelsea over next week. Both crowd and team only seem to turn up for the "big" games.
Sibierski
I’d expect us to turn over Chelsea because they’re a bit weak mentally and it’s the sort of home game we thrive on. Then it’s chatter of ‘only 4 off top 5’, before we go and take one point from next two away games.

Yes could get better but we would need 7 team above us for start doing worse for us to get a shout of top 4/5. There's too many teams in the mix imho. Coffee_Johnny
As unlikely as it seems at the moment, we could still be back on track for top six by the end of this month. Three wins is the only way to secure this (though it is 8 points we need). This is based on average points required per month taking into account strength of opposition etc. More realistic, perhaps, is the 17 points required before the end of January; from 24 available. 2.1 points per game still seems a huge ask though. Kid Icarus
6.5 for me. 5 in that it could go either way with a 2.5 bump based on previous evidence of us doing it before, how tight the league is, and Wissa to still come in, and a -1 reduction based on us not looking close to turning a proper corner. AyeDubbleYoo
We're 4 points off 5th, everything is up for grabs still. Reminds me a bit of that season where we looked nailed-on for relegation but were never actually more than 4 or 5 points away from safety and eventually made it. Of course if we play shit for the rest of the season we won't do it. Edited December 15, 2025 by AyeDubbleYoo
Guillaume
Big December ahead, time for the manager and team to start proving themselves, or be prepared to go at the end of the season. A cup quarter final, and 4 winnable PL games before new year. No less than 3 wins and 2 draws will do.
