Fak
25 minutes ago, Superior Acuña said: Im not sure it says tenth is possible - it does say *ten teams*. Could be wrong. The only viable ninth one needs Palace to finish top 7, which is v unlikely. The extra CL place that could happen doesn’t bump the places down to ninth as I thought. Roger. That kind of clears stuff up. Not much like.
BermyToon
Can't see us getting more than 5 points from the remaining three games, so Europe is pretty much out of the question. Should help us focus more on the league and domestic cups.
TRC
So if Villa get 5th and win CL, does the Prem just get one Europa place?
SUPERTOON
Doesn’t the conference league start in July? Not a long enough break for us not having to watch us play imo

Not a long enough break for us not having to watch us play imo The Conference League would be super chill. We can walk most of the group stage games and probably even some of the knockouts without playing any of our ten best players. Would actually be a great stage to give the likes of Elanga and Wissa some confidence in hopes of turning them around. Think it would be a net positive to have even with the congested schedule. oldtype
I'm mostly just gobsmacked by the fact that it's still mathematically possible for us to qualify for the Champions League. The league table is completely absurd.
Cronky
I'd be quite happy to miss out on Europe. We seem to be in a cycle of Champions League one season, followed by mid-table the next, and I'd settle for that. The CL used to be a step up in quality, but, apart from the very best opposition, that's not the case any more. Even the smaller PL clubs now have the financial muscle to build strong first teams. Our CL group games were generally much easier than the League games. Unless you have a really great squad, it's almost impossible to compete in Europe without it affecting results in the Premier League. I think ourselves, Forest, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Villa and Palace have been affected by the extra fixtures. The danger now isn't just mid-table mediocrity, it's relegation. I also think our team has peaked and now needs an overhaul. By all accounts, this is the thinking within the club as well. It's best to do that without European competition. In the unlikely event of us qualifying for Europe, I'd use it to give experience to younger players.

I wouldn’t say no to Europa League tbh, even for the only reason if it helps us get a better calibre of player ECL would be a waste of time unless we keep Cordero, Salia, Finneran etc at the club and blood them in these games. The College Dropout
We need regular European football. Most seasons - 8th is good enough for Europe now. We should be in Europe 4 years out of 5 if that's the case. And win the non-CL competitions too.
Tisd09
Some of the responses to the TNT post about us being able to qualify for CL and get relegated are funny. Loads of "you got no chance" they must have missed the bit where most of us probably more worried about relegation than being excited about any European competition. We have a favourable fixture list left it isn't out of the question but you feel we need to win all three to stand any chance of even conference league? I wouldn't be against Conference League either. Chance to give some of the young players a run out and if we are going to sign these wonderkids we keep hearing about these games would be the perfect time to give them a chance. EL would be tougher on us as we are likely to need to put out stronger squads. Edited May 5 by Tisd09
Wallsendmag
Qualifying for the Conference means our summer transfer budget is reduced though due to having to follow UEFA spending rules doesn't it? If that was the case I could live with not being in it.

Not really a sensible approach to think we’re not in Europe this year, so just ignore it, then when you qualify the season after, you’re miles over and end up getting in bother. *obviously not quite as simple as I’ve made out there, cos you have to stick to the PL rules, so you’re unlikely to go ‘miles over’, but you see the point I’m making.
