Fairly crushing defeat that, morale-wise, as well as the actual result.

Up to us to take advantage.

I know if Villa win the EL and finish tip five, sixth is Champions League and we give up an EL spot.

Is it not if Villa win the EL and finish 5th specifically? Rather than just anywhere in the top 5

Aye because 5th is supposed to be an extra spot so it still gets rewarded independently from other qualifications.

Not sure on that one tbh. We do need Chelsea to lose in the FA Cup final to release that EL spot though.

Apparently we can have up to 10 teams in Europe if Palace and Villa win their competitions, but surely 9th can’t qualify for Europe man that would be ridiculous.

I think the 10 included Forest, so that’s probably down to 9 now. And obv includes Palace, who likely finish bottom half. So 8th will be the lowest league place.

Got to be honest if getting in to Europe results in a season like this one, I can’t be arsed

Bit like us with Barca - encouraging first leg then collapse. Hopefully they’re as shit in next game as we were.

Likewise. In fact the last two. It should be a reward and something to enjoy but instead it just feels like it's a millstone around our neck.
Having said that, I would fancy our chances of going far in the two lesser European competitions, which could be fun but we'd have to be ok with being shite in the league as a consequence

It looks very likely Villa and Palace are going to pick up European Trophies, why would we not want to follow them next season?

It’s cope.

Yep. I have not even clicked this thread for a while, that's how far off I feel we are.

So its looking likely 7-8 will get in through the league and palace through conference, is that right?  Presuming 6th get cl, man city win cup etc

I absolutely think you have a chance of Europe and should try really really hard for the next two weeks.

Aye, if we get a win on Sunday we're absolutely in the mix. I'd expect at least 4 teams above us to drop points this weekend.

It's mental how compressed the table is between 8th and 16th.

It's not so much I think we can't win, I just don't like that we are relying on so many other teams losing. But yes, it's always possible.

Part of it is me thinking we don't really deserve it, not gonna lie.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in 50 years of watching football it’s that the word “deserve” is meaningless

If we win our final 3 then we definitely finish above Fulham (we play them) and one of Chelsea/Sunderland (play eachother). Realistically its both of the latter 2 so that's 10th. You just don't see Everton winning 3 on the bounce at any point so that's 9th realistically.

Then looking at the 3 B's, mixed bag of fixtures for them all but I reckon 9 points just scrapes Europe

I've done a few predictors and we need Spurs to beat Everton most likely. I have us finishing 9th on 54 points, 1 point behind Everton and 3 behind Brighton.

While it does feel silly that we’ll probably see English clubs win both minor European trophies again, I’d forgotten how samey the Europa/UEFA has always been. Since the UEFA became the Europa, there have been 16 Europa Cups. Spanish clubs have won 9 and English clubs 4. Sevilla themselves have won 7 of the last 20. Back in the late 80s-90s Italy won 8 of 11. Twas ever thus.

Id take that as a top half finish to end the season on a high - but I can’t see us winning 3 games in a row from now on

Forest are knackered, West Ham are relegated and Fulham are on the beach. Easy wins

I think we've had far too many missed opportunities this season, losses against teams there for the taking and awful performances to qualify for Europe.

That said, win on Sunday and we could be right in the mix.

Still, it'll require us to win 4 of the last 4 league games, and 4 on the trot doesn't happen often. (1st one won last week).

They are probably as easy 3 games as you could expect at this stage of the season. But I still can only see us picking up 7 points at best. I just don't trust this team to go against their form book all season and suddenly win 4 in a row.
