McTominay would be absolutely fine to bring in as a squad player. we're thin in midfield and he fits the profile to a tee. we're going to need a squad if we're to compete on multiple levels next season. it's the absolute basics, this. can't believe it needs explaining

McTominay wouldn't sign for us to be a squad player though when he already has that at a far bigger club.

We need a squad true, but there's no need to make McTominay part of it.

I would not be putting McTominay into the XI ahead of Longstaff. Joelinton is a much better player than McTominay and he's going to struggle to get back in the team now. We need a top class CM so that ie Longstaff etc. become the squad players, not so that the likes of McTominay become backup to Longstaff.

Sick of seeing this quote from Shaw:

Quote

"They wanted it more. At Manchester United that shouldn't be possible," Shaw told Sky Sports.

"I don't think Newcastle won on quality, they won on desire, passion, hunger, attitude.

We definitely won on quality. The way the quote is being said is that we just worked harder than them (which we did) but we have loads of quality all over the pitch. It's not all down to running more than the opposition

We don't need squad players atm mind. We need better players in starting positions.

That mentality is more endemic amongst that club, it's managers, staff, ex-pros, and fans than with any other club. Each club has things about it that people don't like - that's their's. Just relentless, insufferable arrogance about who they are.

Anyone beating them has done so because it was their cup final, they won because they wanted it more not because they're better, they did a lap of honour because beating us - the mighty Man United - is a huge deal to them and probably the biggest accolade in football.

It's been the same mentality from them for decades and it's why no fucker likes them and their sterotypically Terry Christian-like fans.

It's a laughable and bitter statement and total denial. That first goal in particular was truly exceptional. Gonna have to rifle back through the goal of the season threads to see if there's been a better NUFC team goal down the years; Perez v Ipswich springs to mind but surely the opposition yesterday will trump just about anything.

Longstaff's second in the Southampton semi final.

That one came to mind too cos it was sensational also, but I thought yesterday's pips it cos it had one or two different elements to it. The crunching tackle to start it off, the quality of passing in a congested area, the acrobatic assist, scoring from a centimetre out... wew. The Southampton one was more about the pace and power of Joelinton and Willock.

We're comparing quality with quality here though; they're both tremendous goals and provide two of the most effective demonstrations of the obscene progress we've made.

That comment from Shaw tells you all you need to know about their squad and what's holding them back. They think they're better than they are and with that mentality how can they make the improvements they need to? You can't improve when you're lying to yourself.

Not what he was expressing at all, he was making the point that they need to raise their level of effort and heart.

And if they had put the effort in they would have won, because we don't have the quality they have.

It would be humiliating to our current midfielders to bring in McTominay. None of our midfielders really deserve to be replaced at the moment but to do it with McTominay would be a degrading gesture towards them. I don't dislike McTominay but do it well or don't at all.

We need a squad.

I think that's debatable with the lineups yesterday.
