It's not hate at all. I rate him and i think he's a really good guy, but he's a CB filling in at LB. It's hardly lunacy to suggest I would prefer a  good specialist left back playing in that position is it?

Are there any other teams in the Premier League or Champions League that played almost the entire season with a centre back playing as a fullback? He will be targeted next season, you know he will. Add speed, mobility, crossing ability and attacking prowess on that left hand side and we look more balanced and more threathening.

And how many of those teams had a better defensive record than us? We didn’t carry Dan Burn through it all, he was an integral part of it. I kept reading how he would be targeted last season and it didn’t happen.

Yes he is a centre back playing left back, but as a left back he had a fantastic season.

Buying a quality specialist left back doesn't automatically mean Burn won't ever play there. We are weak in numbers on the left side of defence (Burn, Targett, Dummett to cover 2 positions, and of course Dummet doesn't even count really). It would also give us another option, and another dimension when needed. Got to think the club will be trying their hardest to make something happen here.

Yes, that's kind of cementing my point though. I know we can't go out and spend a billion pounds but we've just finished 4th. Build on it.

I guess there are two approaches - accept that it was a bit of a fluke and be happy with 6th next season or use it as a launch platform and try to cement our place in the top 4. Given the ambitions of our owners, I thought it would be the second option. As it is, it looks to be the first, and i can't be the only one that's disappointed with that?

It’s just because of FFP.

PIF tried to sign Mbappe to Saudi. If it was an option with us, they would be all over it. It’s not possible. So we are doing the best we can with what we have.

It is a bit shit aye.

I'd be more than happy with Targett as our left back. I thought he did great when he first came, but the reason I, and I guess most other people don't talk about him as our first choice LB is because Eddie doesn't seem to see him as that. Even last season when most people were calling for Dan Burn to be dropped and Targett to come in, Eddie stuck with Burn and Targett warmed the bench. If he's our first choice LB this season, great!

It’s almost like Howe saw no reason to break up his back four, which over the length of a full season proved to be one of the best in the Premier League. This preseason Howe and his coaching team will be working on giving us the best chance to replicate or improve on this record going in to next season, be it with Targett, Burn or someone else as yet unknown. Have some faith. The club have deserved it.

It’s actually really interesting how close ours and Chelsea’s transfer policies are. We are both targeting young players who are deemed to have very high potential. I think the long term plan for us will be to put ourselves in a position squad wise where we can sell anyone for daft money and actually end up being stronger due to having a wedge to reinvest.

truly anti fragile.
