Just a casual reminder of who Steve Nickson is, at 1.45 on this video. For those of you who are worried that nothing is going on. Steve Nickson isnt just a scout, hes someone who talks to players about the project, becomes the first person to make contact with the opposition camp and convinces them to join. Look at the way Sven greets Nickson, not like a new acquaintance but as someone he'd likely met multiple times before.

 

Just because we've been potless for 18 months doesn't mean that him (and Andy Howe) haven't persistently been watching and talking to players. It's happening all the time.

 

We know who's available, we know who we'd like, sometimes these players go elsewhere and sometimes it takes a little while to get the green light but provided we have the money and the motivation, it's going to happen.

 

Behind the Paul Mitchell shenanigans, there's still some very smart people at work.

Would Raphinia be realistic? Yes he’s old but would improve our RW immediately plus they have Yamal one wing and Nico Williams on the other

Honestly think where wasting our time dealing with PL clubs, all of them will push the price up when we come knocking and happy to string us along.

 

It's been 2 years since Tonali. 3 or more for Isak, Bruno & Botman. Easier to sell when we were the new rich club where we weren't hampered by PSR due to Ashley's lack of spending. We're obviously still very attractive to players but possibly not to the same level if it doesn't look like we're going to be PSG or City-ing our way due to PSR.

Didn't he also fly to Brazil to speak to Bruno?

 

Nickson is clearly an important figure, beyond just player identification.

Bang on. Nickson is a huge asset, the best at what he does - spotting, scouting and speaking to players - and a workaholic whose air miles are off the scale. But he's thinly spread, and must be among the people at the club most frustrated at not getting deals over the line. 

I guess he's just used to it by now. Way back in Jan 2019, he had Raphinha lined up on loan with a buying option from Sporting only for Ashley and Charnley to veto it.

If we buy someone with potential for the RW spot I will trust that the club have made the decision not just for next season but with the following season and those after that.

Even if. Dibling might be very good in the future, but he might not. With PSR we really cannot try and hope with very expensive player with little experience.

Zero chance - he’s was arguably the best player in La Liga - had the season of his life - gets paid a shed load of money and plays for a bigger club that’s in the conversation for trophies
