NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

Frustrating to see Joao Pedro snatched by Chelsea just as we were close, and now Liverpool swooping in to ruin the Ekitike deal after our big offer.

But credit to Eddie, both were on our radar right after the takeover when they were still bargains. Just shows he’s got a sharp eye for talent

So the Elanga info turned out to be accurate. At the time I was told that he’s been consistently in the top 3 RW targets for the last 2 years.

Same source also told me last week that we absolutely still want Guehi but were waiting to make a final decision once Palace’s European fate had been decided, as that could affect prices etc. Same person also said that Scalvini is also absolutely on the list but Guehi still our 1st choice as there’s a feeling we can get him for the £40m mark if we play our cards right.

Same source also seriously doubted the credibility of the Ekitike link and told me a few stories about how Romano is used as a (potentially paid) pawn by clubs/agents to break stories to suit whatever agenda they want out there.

As always, just passing on little tidbits. I have NO CONTROL of whether these things actually happen 😁

So, it’s looking like my sources were pretty much bang on re: Elanga (thankfully) and Ekitike (sadly).

Let’s see if the Guehi thing happens before the end of the window to make it 3/3 😬😁

I don’t think we should be spending around the £30m mark on someone who’s gonna be second choice to Isak and at the end of their career. I’d much rather we went for someone like DCL on a free then spent Ekitike type money on someone who’s going vastly improve the first team.

Err I got a lot of time for you but we literally bid for Ekitike?

More likely than Ekitike was. He'd certainly get a lot of game time given our commitments

I don't think Ekitike was going to be second choice, we would have changed formation. Can't see us doing that with Wissa.

The scouting team rather than just Eddie and we knew that even when Ashley was here.

What did they say regarding Guehi if you don't mind repeating?

Fire them a text about Wissa then…

I rate Wissa but he's expensive and less versatile than Pedro/Ekitike. If Isak's staying, I think we have more license to take a punt on someone from overseas for less and throw more money at a CB.

Yeah, fair. They didn’t really say whether they’d think we’d bid. They were just very dubious about why Romano was pushing it so hard, knowing what they know about how he’s used by certain clubs to try to force through deals / flush out interest.

Yeah no disrespect but I think we all knew this, he's a tool for anyone willing to pay him it became very evident when he was doing PR for greenwood.

You've said all along you didnt think we were actually that set on Ekitike to be fair, maybe we werent as balls deep as we've been led to believe.

Fair enough. What I’m getting at is that ever since the Ekitike story started to break last week, whether we did bid for him or not, the people I speak to have been pretty consistent in believing that it was never going to happen and that the media were being used to flush out another club (Liverpool in this case).

I still think there’s merit in thinking we’ve played Liverpool here, to be honest. I’ve said consistently that the Ekitike link didn’t seem to make sense, and coupled with the agent I mentioned a couple of days ago mentioning that he thought we were trying to take Isak off the table, it makes sense to me.

Hey, maybe we’ve been the ones to leak the Ekitike story to Romano etc, do a bit of negotiating, because we know that Liverpool wanted him or Isak (and are probably the only team who can afford Isak right now), and we wanted to force their hand and take them out of equation? Maybe we’re smarter than we’re given credit for.

Heard any tidbits on what we may do next regarding the sort of striker we pursue?
