I think I’d be trying to cover as many bases between now and the end of the window. Would be happy with…

Muniz - £30m (out of contract next summer)

Gallagher - £30m

Chalobah - £40m

Sign Isak up with a new contract.

That would be an amazing window....if we were trying to compete with Crystal Palace or West Ham.

Going off previous windows

- We need our Tonali / Isak for this window (happy to take Scalvini or Tapsoba as this), (Ekitike would have been this calibre)
- Elanga is our Gordon level signing for this window
- We need our Hall/Tino type (I thought this was going to be Trafford, perhaps it will be Dibling instead)

- Wissa will be our Trippier, Burn-type of signing
- We also need a Barnes level CM - Gallagher would be this.

- The odd youngster (Cordero, Vakhtang, Doumbia) is our Minteh / Osula type of signing.

That will be a good window.

Yes, we need players that challenge for first XI. You don't buy big money players for depth. Gallagher would be good addition, Chalobah no better than we have and surely we can find better player than Muniz for 30 million?

Edit. No chance we are getting Dibling this window imo. Asking price seems to be way too much.

Be looking at £200m minimum for that lot

If we've bid 70m for Ekitike, already spent 55m on Elanga, that's 125m already.

Trafford they've bid 30m - that's 155m.
Hujisen would have been 50m - already takes us over 200m.

The budget I believe is there but we're picky about the right players

In retrospect, it’s incredibly fortunate that we got lucky with our initial signings and ended up with basically no dead weight, because otherwise messing up our PSR calculations and losing multiple transfer windows could have sunk the entire project. I’m sure some of it was good scouting, but even with the best scouting program in the world nobody gets it 100% right like we basically did.

It’s given us a big comfy cushion to keep us competitive while we flounder about a little due to executive team turnover and PSR nonsense.

Wissa £30m

Scalvini £45m

Trafford £35m

Gallagher loan with £30m obligation

Dibling loan with £50m obligation

Job done

*turns football manager off*

On another note, not sure why we seem completely against using the loan system (Hall aside)

We go burnt by Targett

Played solidly on loan here, then gets a permanent deal on £900,000 a week wages but has hardly played because of his eczema flare ups

Howe has said he only wants players 100% committed to the cause. You probably don’t get that with players on loan.

Also it’s lost money really, he’s always talking about how careful we have to be with our cash.

I don't mind the idea of us having a reality check and going after slightly less attractive targets given that we clearly can't compete with the cartel clubs for the absolute top tier players.

Slightly older players like Trippier. Young prospects who need to grow into the squad like Livramento and Hall. Competent PL players who we're explicitly bringing in to be part of the squad rather than to be fixtures in the starting XI, like Dan Burn (who turns out to be starting anyway).

If we're going to have to pay a ridiculous premium to get anywhere near the cream of the crop, better to be outbidding all the mid table clubs for the best of the rest instead. Frankly, we need depth just as much as we need quality.

Loans with obligation are really just a way to spread the cost I think. You’ll always buy them at the end.

Yeah I don’t think he has issued with obligations to buy, just out and out loans he doesn’t like.

Agree. But doesn’t mean we shy away from ever trying to sign  top tier if we think there is a chance of signing the best. Would just prefer, as would everyone involved no doubt, if it the process was all a bit speeded-up. In with a time limited non-negotiable best offer and then onto the next on the list.

Or if every single tit-bit of the process wasn’t splashed out across social media by ‘journalists’ with differing agendas.
