NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

Remember when the first we knew about transfers was when a fee was agreed and personal terms accepted? Was just looking at the Isak threads first page, what I wouldn't do to have another one like that this week. We need something to get the ball rolling, something big, something left field, something like Samu or Ramos signing, no rumours, no will he, won't he, fighting it out with someone else for the signature, just "deal done!".

Main thing I'm banking on at the moment is the gargantuan chip on our shoulders creating a siege mentality

This feels like a good window to sign misfits from other clubs. People stuck on the bench or out of favor for whatever reason. Capitalize on the Joelinton transformation. If we had scouts that's what I'd like us to do.

Our first 11 is absolutely class, definitely top 5/6 in the league and maybe even higher. Certainly in midfield.

The squad however, is shocking. Our season will be decided by how deep our squad can go and based on the evidence of 23/24 and this summer, it won't be very far. I'd argue we have (assuming Isak stays) 13 outfield players that can be relied on or are good enough. Not even close to being serviceable for a season with a minimum of 48 games.

It was universally agreed we needed 5 or 6 players this summer given Longstaff and Wilson have left. We have 1 (I'm not counting Ramsdale as Dubravka and Vlach look like they're going).

We would have to be extremely lucky with injuries to get close to qualifying for Europe again for 26/27 and that's not counting for general wear & tear/fatigue over the season. Apologies for being completely negative but based on the summer so far, I have next to no confidence they'll get 1 player in by the end of the window, let alone what's needed.

The last CL season absolutely decimated the squad, so if we don't get 4-5 in we're either going to have to play a less intensive game or we accept that we'll probably see our PL form drop off again due to injuries.

I just realised we only have 23 days left to sign probably four players

We can easily get players in to raise the floor from Longstaff, Kelly and Wilson, I think those will be done quite quick, it's the Isak replacement that's the sticking point.

Guarantee it won't

The Isak thing is clearly paralysing our entire market though. Whatever fee we get, and who we get to replace him, likely changes the budgets massively for other positions like CB and CM. The whole thing is an omnishambles.

We already play a less intensive game so I can’t see us having that sort of terrible luck again. We still need the bodies so we can realistically change a number of positions in the team from Wednesday to Sunday

We needed a CB and CM from the start though before Isak situation came to light, or the club did actually know and it's another failure from their part to leave it to this point.

Like the CB and CM should be circa £40m each, selling Isak and raising that to £60m, does that really open up more targets? At this point in window, those targets clubs will likely not sell as the window in their eyes has closed.

We're going to be scrapping around the players clubs actively want gone, because we've fucked it so hard, we don't have the time to do the ground work that would usually take a few weeks.

I'd much rather the makeshift recruitment team went for stopgap quick wins in midfield and defence now tbh. I don't want them being let loose with £100m+ and failing in an even higher bracket.

Lift the floor and leave the roof raising for when we have a DoF basically.

Based on what?  Why haven't we seen any movement on this and how come we can't seem to work on multiple deals at a time.  Even one at a time seems beyond us

Our first 13-14 players, as it stands.  Is very strong and probably better than last year.  But after that.....  We have got weaker and the squad has got thinner.  We have started getting rid of some of the dead wood and so it isn't bloated full of players that won't even contribute.  But we don't seem like we will be replacing them any time soon.

What do you guys think of the idea of getting a young ST from a super club on loan for a year as our backup if we can't get anyone at a decent fee, e.g. Endrick or Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid? Seems better than panic buying some average ST like NJ at some crazy fee? We do still need a main ST if Isak leaves tho

As a back up for who?

I hate the idea of paying for the privilege if developing someone else's prospects as well. Hard no thanks from me.

It's not even the striker situation that worries me the most. After all we still have Isak. It's the fact that we seem to put all our work into getting a striker or two when we desperately need a midfielder or even a CB? I truly hope the club is still working hard on other positions. In my view getting a midfielder is of utmost importance. A CB can technically wait if I had to choose. Atleast from the depth perspective.

All noise recently on Gallagher is him going to Spurs

But at this point, him for £45m mark and Guehi for £40m (if Liverpool don't come in at that point), with any steady striker is what can only save this window (with Isak staying). They're players that will 100% be at the required Howe fitness levels and can slot straight into squad/league no problem.

Isak we can plan for life after in 2026 and how to use the money on our squad, because it may well be a decision is made to sell someone else alongside Isak and really go for it.

I think we will stay clear of Guehi for exactly that reason since Liverpool will come in for him as soon as we start talking to them again, and we can't suffer the PR of it happening yet again.
