Now we're getting slagged for not paying enough and not convincing players that we're better prospect for them than other clubs that are more famous and have been more successful in recent times.

 

We go for ambitious, high-profile targets, fail, some say failure was coming a mile off, and then the same people kick off when lower profile targets (Wissa, McGinn etc.) get mentioned. They say we are "shopping like West Ham". 

 

Some things you just can't win. Whatever it is, I do not find it "embarrassing", unless you want to buy into Talksport mickey taking.

Man U may have Sesko, but they're not in the CL. They'll have to improve a lot to get near us this season.

 

There is definitely a middle ground between the players we've missed out on and McGinn like.

Massively on them. As shit as the current summer situation is, I was thinking earlier that this could be a good thing in the long term.

 

I can't imagine being told "No" goes down well with them  it very rarely happens and they're not used to hearing it.

 

They probably will take it personally and it could 'refocus' their effort.

We have heard stuff like this for ages tbf. Regarding PSR, transfers, the big 6 etc, however for the last year or so, it seems like they really couldn’t care less. Let’s see if any stadium plans are announced, at least then we may have an idea if they are still interested.

I know there’s a major drop off in quality from the Premier League to the Championship, but if one of the issues is how players in foreign leagues will adapt to the English game, isn’t there an opportunity to catch some talent there while maybe still mitigating some risk?

I do think Rodrygo is a good poster boy and replacement for Isak and could play as a false 9. Hence I’d like to see us spend the Sesko money on him. Play like PSG this season and he could be our Dembele. Elanga is Doue and Gordon is like Kvara. Fluid and can see Howe be adaptable enough to do that.

As a business owner, you try and invest in a structure that you believe is right. For them, it was Ashworth, Mitchell and Eales. Clearly wrong in hindsight but once you've made hires in good faith, you expect results. They didn't come. That's massively frustrating as an owner. Frustrated at yourself, the people you employed and the situation.

 

Then this summer, they've attacked 4-5 clear targets that they've been monitoring/scouting, are a 'fit' in terms of playing style and character, and players Eddie has given the green light to sign. If reports are to be believed, even when we've matched clubs valuations, we've been rejected by the player. That's frustrating and potentially insulting. It's not an unwillingness to spend or act. 

 

Then, the Isak situation. Your star employee comes to your door and hands their notice in and effectively goes on strike.  That's shit and not something that's in their control (unless they bow down to huge wage demands with 3 years left on the contract).

 

As a business owner you can believe you've made many informed decisions in good faith, but have not got the results you wanted.

 

That's really frustrating and two things happen - you quit totally or you learn lessons and come back fighting. We might not see the fight back until they've completed the thorough analysis and have 'war roomed' future scenarios.

This is the worst window I can remember, so far. Given the context and what we needed to do. I hadn’t realised how bad things were behind the scenes. It’s been like someone who doesn’t know that much about football lazily playing Football Manager. Unless we pull our fingers out over the next 3 weeks I think it sets us back years and ruins any good work done.

Unless something drastic happens we ate not signing multiple players in 3 weeks

This shitshow is certainly on PIF but there is a massive misconception on here on what PIF is and how they operate.

 

They are a sovereign wealth fund and an investor. They would not ordinarily get involved in any day to day running of the private assets that they own. Similar in many ways to a pension fund in the UK.

 

However, they do of course have the responsibility of establishing a sound management structure to run the club and this appears to be a shambles since Stavely left. No permanent CEO for the best part of a year is unforgivable and then we have the mess of Ashworth/Mitchell etc. 

 

I have no idea how PIF can effectively delegate under the current structure.

Yep. I think it’s damage limitation now. We seem to be completely clueless when it comes to CB and CM targets too, never mind missing out on strikers.

Wissa for Isak (who finally get his 'only ever wanted Liverpool') and two emergency loans for a CM and CB would be sensational progress compared to the past two weeks. Osula and Gordon will have to do as striker backups till Jan.

 

Feel we need a change of personnel to sort our the current shit show, and that ain't happening in time.
