NUFC Transfer Rumours

Fab and Ornstein are effectively client journalist at this point.

They either get paid to put info out, or put info out for engagement, so it becomes very easy for clubs and agents to create a narrative.

It's become obvious we don't do this, so the narrative will always run against us.

The club would probably be best served by cultivating a relationship with influencers like them, I don’t like either, especially Romano, but they have massive influence. Hasn’t he got something like 100m followers?

We’ve seen first hand this window how influential controlling the narrative can be. Some of the early Ekitike/Isak updates felt like they’d been written in the Anfield boardroom.

Absolute bullshit. Strand Larsen is a very good relatively young striker who scored 14 goals in his PL season. He’s comfortably a £35m-£45m player in today’s market.

Have you seen the quality of players Sunderland have been spending £20m+ on?

Im not saying he’s the solution or a replacement for Isak, but as a second choice striker if the Wissa deal doesn’t happen for any reason, it wouldn’t be the worst move.

Lets agree to disagree on this one.

Sunderland have bought a lot of players....all barring possibly Xhaka are gambles and its almost certain some wont pay off. Some of them might, amd if they do good for them

But were not fishing in a pond for.20m players.....were looking at 40 m plus.

I think Strand Larsen is closer to a Sunderland signing than a club looking to push up from 4/5th.

This shitshow is certainly on PIF but there is a massive misconception on here on what PIF is and how they operate.

They are a sovereign wealth fund and an investor. They would not ordinarily get involved in any day to day running of the private assets that they own. Similar in many ways to a pension fund in the UK.

However, they do of course have the responsibility of establishing a sound management structure to run the club and this appears to be a shambles since Stavely left. No permanent CEO for the best part of a year is unforgivable and then we have the mess of Ashworth/Mitchell etc.

I have no idea how PIF can effectively delegate under the current structure.

Football clubs are not a pension fund business.

To get to the top of the game like Yasir has said - you cannot run NUFC like a pension fund.

Crystal Palace, to Forest, to Spurs, to fucking Real Madrid - none of these clubs are ran like pension funds. All of them have active CHAIRMAN. Was the day after our sale, Daniel Levy emailed the premier league to push through the APT rule changes. Forests owners are doing so many dodgy transfers and personally breaking contractual release clauses with players and forcing them to stay a further year.  Florentino Perez has been waging war with UEFA for at least half a decade in an attempt to preserve Real Madrid as the dominant force in European football.

This is what Chairman’s of football clubs need to do to survive and thrive. We aren’t beating Daniel Levy with hands off owners.

To be fair to PIF, the appointments have been high profile and to coin a INEOS phrase 'best in class'.
Dan Ashworth - huge reputation for being the best out there

Paul Mitchell everyone was over the moon that he agreed - he had said no to Man Utd previously
Even Darren Eales had a great rep for buiilding Atlanta from the ground up into champions

All had pedigree to be fair - no-one could have guessed it would have been like this

I think he's 'only' got about 26m followers

Yes please.

Please no.

I look at him and see the same issues that plagued Davy Klassen and Siem De Jong. He's a system player benefitting from a talent imbalance against weaker opponents. I'd say he's got slightly more about him than De Jong or Klassen, but that's not saying much given both of them had a horrendous time outside of Dutch football. If we sign him you'll soon see he's just a Dutch Sean Longstaff.

Van de Beek could also fall into that bracket, as another who looked wonderful in a functioning Ajax team and at a loss everywhere else he's been since. Shame really, if he'd just stayed at Ajax he could have had himself a really good career at a beautiful football club. I guess the financial draw is too much of a lure.

Cripple wasn't he? If he could stay fit there was definite talent there.

Aye, had a horrific time with injuries. The few games he managed to play he looked quality. Must've been a good character as well. Wasn't he immediately made vice captain? Or have I made that up in my head?

Van de Beek is the perfect comparison actually. He's more of an 8 than a 10.

I think you're right, but it's tricky. They want to be challenged, the money isn't great (relatively). It's why those Ajax graduates feel so hit and miss for me.

they did nought man - they were terrible appointments.  Lived off the back of the efforts of Eddie and Amanda.  Not even starting development of a new training ground is unforgivable.  And probably cost us this window - what project can they bloody sell to new players?  It is four years since the takeover and the silence if deafening. City started development of theirs three years after they were took over.  We haven't even announced any plans.
