Have come away from a lot of games thinking that his decision making in the final 3rd just isn't very good, particularly when there's a FB overlapping and he needs to decide whether to play him in or use him as a decoy to cut inside, he invariably seems to make the wrong call, something Gordon struggles with as well in fairness. A lot of promising situations on the left haven't materialised into much as a result. It's a crucial element as there's a lot of potential there with the energy of Hall/Livramento it really is a strength they need to be making the most of.

I thought that was the case on Sunday.  But since West Ham onwards, the polar opposite.  He seemed to regularly make the right run or pass.  His decisions were usually spot on.

Sunday he wanted to hold onto it a fraction too long and the chance would disappear.  I think our whole team bar Bruno and Murphy were guilty of this against Chelsea, mind.

We don't want to lose his goals and the different aspect of his game compared to Gordon which will suit certain games/situations but at 28 you can't blame the club thinking recycling some players to reinvest is going to have to happen to some of the squad. Getting rid doesn't mean they don't hold value we just can't retain everyone until they retire or leave on a free. It's just not always going to happen perfect timing wise.

Can't believe there's still people who want to sell him. He's produced more than Gordon this season and is only proving the value of having a SQUAD of players. Especially if we're playing CL next season.

Re: decision making, if Howe can get Murphy consistently making the right decisions, it's surely just a question of time until Barnes is.

Entirely up to Howe on whether he's open to moving him on or not as far as I'm concerned. The traditional reasons for selling are obvious, but he's made a valuable contribution this season and we've got a lot of games to play next year. So I'll just wait and see.

So many variables that I am glad it's not my decision.

If he kicks on and puts in his fair share of goals we would be mad to let him go.

If him being sold facilitates Mitchell getting 2 younger prospects in for strength and depth who go on to do well we would probably say in hindsight it's for the greater good.

I like getting shiny new things in terms of players but this PSR shite has you thinking of players as liabilities and deprecating assets.

Best football we've played in months was with the 3 wingers on the pitch, allowed Gordon or Barnes to drift inwards. We have very little attacking threat or fluidity thru the middle with the big 3 playing most games. Wish Joe could learn to attack, mad he was an attacker. Defo wouldn't sell Barnes, Gordon hasn't looked his usual self this year, probably the offering to the bin dippers.

Play him on the fucking left please! Instead of an out of form Gordon!!! Especially when we were chasing the game.

Odd decision really. Trying accommodate Gordon. In this game first half against Saka then yeah understandable. But not all the other times!

Kind of how Barnes has lost form. To a segree.

Give him a break been playing out of position.  If I was him I'd be banging on Eddie's door to ask why he's not playing on the left - was bang in form until he was shifted on to the right.

Said in the match thread but it I was him I'd be annoyed. Outside of Isak he's our most dangerous attacker yet gets shifted to the right everytime Gordon starts or comes on.

I wouldn't mind but Gordon has offered nothing recently. I get that maybe he's more defensive but when you're playing 5 at the back already and especially when you go a goal down, just give Barnes a run on the left where he might do some damage.

Hopefully he starts back there next week. I'd keep Gordon in reserve as he normally loses his head against Everton.

Actually thought he had a good first half tbh. Was neat and tidy and thought it was night and day compared to last week.

But frustrating he gets shoved on the right for Gordon although I can see Eddie’s dilemma.

Couple of times late getting into the box which I think having to play slightly deeper to protect Murphy against Martinelli accounted for.

I've still no idea why it's Barnes right and Gordon left, though. Switch them over.
