The midfield isn’t working. Beginning to get a little concerning.  Almiron has done nothing going forward at least Gordon has tried to get something going.

Agree that it’s not working, Bruno is such a creative player and he’s not getting into positions to do that. Tonali has a great cross on him but I just don’t think we’ve figured out how to make use of him yet, and we’re not making runs into the box to use his crosses. Joelinton is just off the pace

Would be fascinating to know whether the more passive approach is tactical or something just isn’t clicking with the players. Such a contrast to how we normally play.

Yeah, I like him, but that defensive effort has really pissed me off. Pope was bad no doubt, but Tonali couldn’t even be bothered to try and block the shot.

'Fluid' midfield 3 is not working really. Allowing too many runners in the gaps and when we get the ball we seem unsure which of them to offer the supporting runs. Defence is getting exposed and the attack isolated.

Feel Eddie needs to find a way to make having both Wilson and Isak on the pitch work, I feel Isak finds loads of time and space when in wide positions anyway, it hardly hurts us when he posses the dimensions to be such a flexible style of player.

Really doubt it’s tactical, especially after playing a whole season of it last season and having huge success

Yes, defensively he's not as good as Longstaff, who often supported Bruno and covered well for him. However we lose a ton of technicality and forward play with Longstaff.

 

In an ideal world Joelinton's next transformation is into a top class DM, to free up Tonali and Bruno.

 

The midfield is just not clicking right now. The balance is off.

Its the other way, its a channel Brighton use which a dedicated DM wouldn't be effective against. The gap is when we press, it's a gamble, if the press doesnt work its what we see today, if it does we win 4-1. Last season we were great at blocking channels (Longstaff, Willock/Joelinton). This season 2 out of 3 of them are missing.
