"My first two weeks in England are just an adventure all over the place! We arrived here having the opportunity to use the training facilities of Newcastle United, having the doors open over there, because of my contact to Paul Mitchell, the sporting director.

"They give us all the facilities we need so we actually used this storm to work on the pitch, and I think it was also good we stayed together for two days so we can use it for some tactical sessions, some video analysis and to get closer and to know each other.

"So in the end the possible disadvantage was actually an advantage, especially with the hospitality of Newcastle United. They told me I cannot not lose the game over here. I kept my word."

RTG will be in meltdown.

Always had a soft spot for Plymouth since our Hughton season. Never seen a club be so gracious while getting relegated by a team getting promoted.

Also, good to build footballing relationships.

Yes, that was a really gracious moment of sportsmanship.

Advert gone up from the club on LinkedIn for "Executive Assistant to the Sporting Director".

Hopefully someone to sort Mitchell's tea and biccies whilst he gets some graft done in the transfer window.

Well now we know where the Miggy money is going instead of players. What a disgrace. Mitchell out.

People were moaning he had done nowt when he'd been barely here a fortnight, it was inevitable there would be an inquest if we did nowt in January. Despite us already saying before the window we would probably wait until the summer to make big moves.

Was hoping we would get some type of Miggy replacement.

Summer is going to be so interesting. Especially if we qualify for the CL. Because… we’ll actually need a proper squad.  People keep talking about selling Longstaff, Willock, Barnes….. they will need replacements. We are desperately short as it is squad wise.

A part of what’s helped us and Villa maintain some level of performance with a small quality squad is the squad members have been seasoned pros. Are we going to replace them with Spurs like boys? Are we going to wheel and deal like Villa?

Massive summer ahead lad.

This is what I'm wondering as well. Mitchell has been brought in to scout out future stars, but we can't really do much with a handful of Osulas. Eddie's not going to start them for one. Are we going to be buying any ready to go players?

I agree we'll need to keep some of the fringe players like Willock and Longstaff.

Trippier and Wilson should definitely move on, and probably even Lascelles if we're going to sign a new RCB.

We've got a lot of positions to upgrade.

RW and RCB are essential.

We'll need backups for ST and RB too.

That's 4 signings at least.

And if Dubravka leaves we will need another keeper i.e Trafford.

5 signings seems a bit of a stretch.

And that’s the thing.  Eddie won’t play kids.

Yep.  The squad will need 5. 3 as a minimum (RB backup, RCB, RW). Really need a GK and ST too as you say.

If Eddie is happy to play Miley, we could sell both Longstaff and Willock and only replace with 1 player.

Think we should sell Joelinton to Saudi for £70m personally. If Mitoma is worth that.

Just like the other 18 or so sporting directors who have done fuck all in January right?

Try again...

It's said partly tongue in cheek, but it must surely be conceded that he's not had a significant impact in his first 8 months on the job?

He isn’t a scout.

This coming summer was always going to be where we get to see the benefits of his work tbh. If City hadn’t have come in and hijacked the deal, we would have already had a young exciting CB lined up.

We didn’t have psr room to make moves, in the summer when past spending drops off we will be able to hopefully.

His job isn’t just about one transfer window. He’ll be speaking to Howe about what characteristics he’s looking for the positions we need and speaking to the data people to find those players, scouts will be sent out based on that and their reports analysed between him, Howe, Nickson and others.

He’ll be speaking to agents of these players to gauge how open they are to a move, possibly speaking to their clubs lining things up for the summer window.

Unfair to suggest he’s not doing anything or having no impact.

His and the clubs hands are tied for this window.

As frustrating as it is I'm confident we should be able to attack the summer and be much stronger for it.

I'm just a bit frustrated we can't shift a bit more deadwood ahead of time.

I haven’t been excited for the Jan window in betting on for 2 decades, so I’m not disappointed. But football does have an impending issue of becoming really boring for the fans and media if it prices 3/4 of clubs out of making signings.
