We haven't been paying Antony's wages and Hojlund has more G&A in his career than Elanga and is a year younger.

But if it's not from Statman Dave maybe that doesn't count?

Lets look at Prem stats. Elanga has 1 g/a per 182 min. Hojlund 1 g/a per 246 min.

In the last 2 seasons both Elanga and Murphy has more assists in total than Bruno Fernandes. That must mean that they are better playmakers.

Am I the only one who does think that Elanga is worth 55-60m in today’s market then??

Not seen anyone suggesting a comparable player in terms of prem experience that we could sign for less.

I feel a few clubs are spending forever negotiating fees these days. Man U still haven’t agreed one for Mbeumo, and Arsenal seem to take a long time as well. On the other hand Liverpool and Man City are pretty quick.

You're just proving my point. Someone shared a graphic showing Elanga has more assists than Palmer/Fernandes etc. As you say, a lot more to it than that.

I like both Elanga and Mbeumo, but how is one easily a game changer worth £60m+ and Elanga not? Is it just because of the scoring record at RW where he’s significantly outperformed his xg?

15 in 38 and 4 in 25 if you take out his penalties (as we have Isak) in his last two seasons. Paying premium fee for expectation last season is going to be the bar going forward. Again remove pens, it’s G/A every 148 mins, Elanga 147. They’re both matching each other and you can argue Elanga probably can improve.

This is just talking about G&A, which are very similar per 90 if you remove penalties (as if penalties don't need scored).

But as you say @Erikse, it's deeper than that.

  • Mbeumo's pass completion is better than Elanga
  • He has over double the amount of passes into the penalty area than Elanga
  • He has over double the amount of progressive passes than Elanga
  • He has more progressive carries than Elanga and nearly double the amount of carries as Elanga
  • He has a 46% take on success compared to 30% for Elanga
  • He has over double the amount of passes into the final third than Elanga
  • He has more shot creating actions than Elanga
  • He has over 2x the amount of tackles as Elanga and nearly 2x the amount of tackles won
  • He has nearly triple the success rate of tackles on attacking players than Elanga
  • He has 2x as many blocks as Elanga
  • He has 2x the amount of interceptions as Elanga
  • He has nearly double the amount of ball recoveries as Elanga

Simply put, he's miles better than Elanga, and people are using non-penalty G&A stats per 90 to try and compare the two, when Mbeumo blows him away in almost every other statistic.

That's not to say Eddie Howe can't turn him into a monster, but at this moment time he's simply an essential cog in a counter-attacking side.

Really interesting. Brentford should fight tooth and nail to keep him

These stats will be ancient history when he’s playing under Amorim.

It seems like I made my first assist on this forum just now. That's 1 assist in 3,8k posts for me.

Many of these stats depend on the way teams play. Forest had a very low possession % if I remember right, so it is quite clear that Elanga has fewer passes. I havent checked Brentford’s stats, but Forest was mainly a counter attacking team.

Penalties need to be scored, but we already have a player for them.

And I think Mbeumo is a better player. He is also much more expensive.

Friendly wager (if the two go through) as to who will have the more productive season?

He doesn’t even play for Man Utd

Nobody said that he did. Someone just made the comparison between the two and stated that the goals and assists per 90 should be the reason why they go for a similar price.

I've already got a wager on this season about league finishes.

Thought one of these players is going to a Champions League side with the best manager and striker in the league, and the other is going to a relegation threatened side with a fraud for a manager. So it surely wouldn't be fair to try and compare those two would it?

I don’t think you’ll be relegated and I don’t yet think Amorim is a fraud (although I’m not sure which manager will be able to succeed in your current set-up). I think Howe and Isak amongst best in their respective classes, but you’d think if Mbeumo is what you say he is it would be easy money. FWIW I think it would be close, I wanted Mbeumo over Elanga.
