Thought one of these players is going to a Champions League side with the best manager and striker in the league, and the other is going to a relegation threatened side with a fraud for a manager. So it surely wouldn't be fair to try and compare those two would it?

You're just proving my point. Someone shared a graphic showing Elanga has more assists than Palmer/Fernandes etc. As you say, a lot more to it than that.

For example:

This is just talking about G&A, which are very similar per 90 if you remove penalties (as if penalties don't need scored).

But as you say @Erikse, it's deeper than that.

  • Mbeumo's pass completion is better than Elanga
  • He has over double the amount of passes into the penalty area than Elanga
  • He has over double the amount of progressive passes than Elanga
  • He has more progressive carries than Elanga and nearly double the amount of carries as Elanga
  • He has a 46% take on success compared to 30% for Elanga
  • He has over double the amount of passes into the final third than Elanga
  • He has more shot creating actions than Elanga
  • He has over 2x the amount of tackles as Elanga and nearly 2x the amount of tackles won
  • He has nearly triple the success rate of tackles on attacking players than Elanga
  • He has 2x as many blocks as Elanga
  • He has 2x the amount of interceptions as Elanga
  • He has nearly double the amount of ball recoveries as Elanga

Simply put, he's miles better than Elanga, and people are using non-penalty G&A stats per 90 to try and compare the two, when Mbeumo blows him away in almost every other statistic.

That's not to say Eddie Howe can't turn him into a monster, but at this moment time he's simply an essential cog in a counter-attacking side.

Whos gunna read all that shite man

I’d rather have Mbeumo than Elanga, he was the big one I wanted this summer. I’d also rather have Elanga playing under Howe than Mbeumo playing under Amorim.

I'm OK with this viewpoint.

I think Mbeumo is definitely a notch better than Elanga, BUT, Elanga has a very high ceiling and is still young, and will be playing under one of the best coaches in the league. There’s every chance he can be surpassing Mbeumo’s numbers in a couple of years.

Good to see a Froggy reinvigorated, there were some worrying signs at the end of last season that he was losing his edge but I think we’re good for a bit of time yet

Don't call it a comeback baby, I never left.

This is the season where we break him. Glassing him in December will be a mercy.

Mbeumo is definitely better than Elanga. Whether that changes remains to be seen. At the moment there's no contest but I dont think it matters with the squad we have. He improves us no doubt and we are on the up.

Not sure there's any way up for Man United whilst chaos reigns. So id rather be in our position than theirs.

Age obviously does have to be considered as part of the transfer fee. Elanga is effectively 3 years younger than Mbeumo (and Cunha), so in theory could have 3 or 4 great years here and then potentially get another big move after that (for a lot bigger transfer fee) when 26/27, whereas in 4 years the other two will both be 30 and unlikely to generate a profit. This is really both of their last big moves.

That helicopter tour over the Tyne you’ve organised really won’t end well for him.

Sorry.

tl;dr - Mbeumo is miles better than Elanga, and it's not even remotely close.

This is all based on Mbuemo playing for Brentford.

Their front three was largely impressive including Wissa and Schada.

He's not played for Manchester United yet, and in recent times Manchester United have a reputation for players going there and regressing.

I'll be interested to watch how it all plays out, I'm still convinced Amorim doesn't finish the season.

Mbeumo is a better player than Elanga currently, there’s no doubt about that.

However a year at Man United and Mbeumo will no doubt stagnate, whereas a year here and Elanga will

no doubt improve massively

Those statistics didn't sit well with you did they.

Thought they were all pretty meaningless tbh. G/A is what seems to be driving fees for those positions at the moment, everything else is noise I think.

I wouldn't argue that Elanga's 'better' right now anyway, but they're very different players and it's more about what they'll do at their potential new clubs than what they're doing now.

Was more just commenting on you trying to give yourself an out on a bet in July than anything.

Oh you took the whole Howe/Isak/Amorim/relegation shtick seriously?

It's our year mate.

That every decision has to go through Yasir?  I am sure that impression was given during the Amazon Docu

He'll have overall say on general budget and part of that will be justifying player valuations to him, etc, but I'd be shocked if it goes beyond that. It would completely defeat the object on having a CEO or an SD.

More false promises Mike. Like you'd hit your target with those shaky ass Rob Boss hands.

Nailed it.

Id have had Mbuemo over Elanga but since hes asking for wages way beyond what hes worth, fuck him.

If hes willing to put on that shirt, in front of them knackers, clearly hes not the right man for us.
