This is just the Sesko cycle. We spend a few days gradually having hope drained. A vaguely positive update hits, we think we've just about got him, then nothing. Rinse repeat.

Wouldn't even be shocked if this is just something his camp does to keep us at the table when we threaten to walk away while they went for Man U to finish rummaging down the back of the couch.

At this point, we should just agree a deal and give him a decision to make.

That's exactly what needs to happen, until there's an agreed deal nothing definitive can happen.

Everything around this seems like guessing, without anything being directly leaked by the player or either club. All the vague "leaning towards Man United" stuff smells like third-party hearsay (sports journalists will often do this thing where they quote a "source" from another club on a transfer that club has nothing to do with to add a veneer of legitimacy. That source will provide an educated guess about what's going on, which they can run with it as insider information).

If either the selling club or the player were primarily trying to stall so Man United could come in, there's absolutely no reason for them to keep that secret. At a minimum, there would nothing to stop Man United themselves from leaking it to the press. We'd be seeing tweets from Romano or whoever that looks like the ones that Isak's representation were ghost-writing. Instead, none of the reporting is even consistent about whether it's the selling club, the player, or us holding up the deal (i.e. we may not be wiling to go through with this unless we have more clarity with Isak).

The point being, nobody knows what's going on. Let's just set to the side for now and see what happens this week.

How do you push ahead when you've already submitted a bid and given the player a deadline? What are we pushing ahead?

The bid was rejected. They are pushing ahead trying to iron out the differences

The original offer seemed so close that we should have gone in instantly at what they’re asking for to force the issue. Why has it taken us until now to ‘push hard’. Maybe I’m being naive but time is running out for us to get everything we need.

Feels like an over exaggerated ‘update’ with not much changing. I think it’s been clear he would join both teams for a while.

Yeah, but it seems Man United have tried to encourage him to declare he only wants Man Utd and not Newcastle so they could then negotiate the fee down, but if this update is correct it does not appear he is willing to do that.

Not excited at all annoyingly.

Anyone we get is a step down from Isak but we have the added caveat that we are desperate and will over pay because of it, and the player probably isn't that bothered about joining.

It's the evitable backwards step that's most frustrating. Didn't have to be. Should have been able to counter losing Isak with a major squad overall to counter balance the loss. But the club have fucked that up aswell this summer unfortunately.

Depends who you believe. Some said it was neither accepted nor rejected. Anyway, this feels like a nothing update from Hope.

Indykaila reporting his agent is travelling to Newcastle so he must be off to Man U...

He’s just desperate for Isak to join Liverpool, the little gimp.

I get the reservations that he isn’t as good as Isak but people forget Isak barely featured for us in the first 5 months (injury and WC break) and wasn’t a starter until March. He didn’t even start the cup final and it wasn’t that weird. None of that mattered because Wilson was good, we need Wissa to be dependable and bed Sesko in.

You push ahead with a deal that the club actually agree to?  We can submit whatever we want, but until its actually accepted/agreed there's still work to be done.

Very much meh on this like. Obviously not first choice and hes never a 70 million euro striker by all accounts

He's nowhere near Pedro or Etikeitekitekeh. If we sign him, then IT MUST BE as a replacement for Wilson, not Isak. Isak has to stay, if only to get one over Liverpool. Hugo was a massive Wilson upgrade, and Sesko is nowhere near that level.

Sorry Alex, you're staying until next summer.

I hope. I'd have to give up on EPL football for a season as I couldn't handle the ridicule from the shellsuit brigade.

It’d be a club record signing of one of the hottest prospects in world football, I don’t know how anyone couldn’t be excited

If someone wants to call me a snarky cunt here then I'll accept that but I honestly think it's at least partially because it hasn't happened suddenly.
