Didn't feel as confident with balls that came into the box as I would with Pope there. Think he stayed on his line a couple of times that Pope would have came and collected or punched away. Resulted in a few tetchy moments round the box

Great save though and obviously different level to Pope with his feet

Aye, he punched one for a corner that definitely seemed catchable.

But that’s the trade-off v Pope isn’t it? What you lose in that regard, you’re gaining in him being able to pick a pass when it gets knocked back to him.

One excellent save too.

He played a ball into midfield last night that completely encapsulated the difference between him and Pope. Fast, direct and to feet rather than lofted, aimless and to an empty space.

If it's the one I'm thinking of its when Woltemade came deep, took it and played it out left. It's the sort of option that Martinez and Watkins destroyed us with away last season, that we've never had the capacity to do up until now. If he can ping that sort of pass, we literally have the perfect centre-forward to receive them.

An absolutely embarrassing summer. Nobody can try and justify this signing to me, it’s a waste of valuable resources. Hes absolutely shit.

What’s the issue with looking abroad, seriously? If it’s not a player we’ve courted for years or they play in England/are English, we don’t want to know.

It’s absolutely embarrassing now. Complete fuck up from start to finish.

Bat shit crazy idea.....use him as a sub 70-80 minutes into games for his ability on the ball and to help us keep control of the game.

I’d consider playing him as a deep lying midfielder

What's your point exactly? At that point in the summer it was embarrassing. We were being held hostage by our star player whilst being knocked back for basically every replacement we were trying to bring in. I can't remember many people being overjoyed with signing Ramsdale on loan ffs

Thankfully, we landed Woltemade who's been a revelation and 'saved' the summer somewhat.

Ramsdale had a good game but it would be madness to suggest he's going to be our long term #1. He's played 180 minutes of football for us, I'll reserve judgement until there's a larger sample size.

I still think paying £4m for a year of a backup goalkeeper isn't the best use of resources, when we could have spent 3/4 times that on a younger goalkeeper with the intention of him being our #1 long term.

you said he was absolute shit. Hardly reserving your judgment.

Ideally we would rotate between him and Pope depending on opposition, but that's just not how this seems to work when dealing with real human beings and their emotions. Someone needs to be "first choice."

That said, I still wouldn't rule out the possibility that he usurps Pope at some point this season. We signed him for a reason. And if you had asked me two months ago, I would have said it's completely unthinkable that Thiaw would be first choice CB by October.
