the more I think about it the more I like this actually. I think he suits us way more than Villa. If he can be available he should get lots of chances to score in our system like Willock and Joelinton do. I would trust Ramsey to be a better finisher than both, typically.

Again with the caveat that he needs to stay fit enough to contribute, like.

That's the bit I don't get. He plays predominantly down the left, which doesn't strike you as an area of immediate concern.

Willock will be let go? And maybe Joelinton too before long, if PSR means we must move players on while they have value.

Ramsey is a better finisher than Willock, who's been woeful at it since 22-23.

Is he? Ramsey has scored 1 goal in each of last 2 seasons. 2 goals in 45 games doesn’t suggest clinical finisher

Between Ramsdale, Thiaw, and this guy, we definitely seem to have a type in terms of buying the dip on players who were very highly rated two years ago before running into some adversity.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Eddie recognises quality when he sees it.

It’s exactly the sort of signing we should be making, just like Thiaw, and it’s another player seemingly very keen to come.

Definitely feels like it's in that bracket of successful signings we've made so far doesn't it? The ones we're slightly dubious about that work out. Barnes, Livramento, Hall, Gordon.

Never mind better finisher.

For now I would just like someone that doesn't trip over their own feet or fall over so much, and that doesn't go into challenges so feebly.

Regarding his finishing though, he does look like he hits the ball with more conviction and has better balance when he does so, and so hopefully he can deliver more consistently for us.

We're sure signing a lot of expensive floor raisers

Quite amusing people still referring to £30 million to £40 million players as expensive.

I saw today Southampton were asking £50 million for that Fernandes kid, and similar for Dibling.

Both players probably have fees lower than than their ability for the same reason (injuries and not developing) I remember Brummie describing Ramsey as more or less priceless when Emery first came in and he had a hot streak, a couple of years and injuries later and they're happy for £40m

Likewise Willock, after 22/23 he was probably a £50m+ player. A couple of years and injuries later and we'd probably get £20m for him from a club hoping he could put his injuries behind him.

I don't think any functioning PL footballer is really available for less than £30m or so, maybe 35.

Ipswich turned down £35 million for Omari Hutchinson this summer.

You now can't even get a Championship player with a bit of a reputation and high potential with that kind of money.

Not much of a distinction between floor raisers and ceiling raisers in our situation. Our first team is very good. Having better squad players lets us rotate more effectively throughout a busy season and ensures that the first team is not overworked and performing to the best of their ability.

It’s the next best thing after buying players who are clearly better than the first teamers, which is hard to do because, again, ours are quite good.

Eeeeh. You could get cod and chips for ten copies of the Sunday Sun and an empty broon bottle when I was a bairn.
