I assume that's why we looked at El Khannouss.

So we’re helping our close rivals out with FFP by signing the rotation player who’s often injured and hasn’t had a good season in 3 years. And we also already have this player at the club. I’m baffled by this one. Especially for £40m.

Have to say it's very weird that we're constantly saying he's the same as Willock. Why is this? They just play a similar position.

Someone also said this on villa talk so not convinced on some opinions

Yep, given the money they've spent their overall squad is quite poor.

Some of the signings they've made remind of MON's time here.

Targett: £15 million

Barnes: £38 million

Liveramento: £35 million

Hall: £28 million

The 2020's equivalent to signing Reo-Coker for £8 million in 2007 or signing Warnock, Dunne and Collins for a combined £20 million plus in 2009.

I'm confused - are you talking about us or them?  We signed those players, not Villa

edit: apologies gdm - it reads like it was your take.  Didn't realise it was a quote.  The idea that Hall or Livramento were bad buys is nuts

Miley can cover Tonali or Bruno's position.

First choice midfield:

Joelinton - Tonali - Bruno

Second choice:

Willock - Miley - Ramsey

Ideally we'd get someone else in because Willock is a crock but it's okay other than that.

Plus we have Lewis Hall who could do it in an emergency.

Just a little bit sceptical if our midfield would be tough enough on that second choice line-up..

Bone injuries are ok

Muscle injuries would be more concerning

His 23/24 season was awful for injuries. Got to hope that was just a one off.

The three hamstring injuries don't seem too bad considering they kept him out for around 5 weeks each time.

I don’t think £40m is much here tbh . It’s at the bottom end of the £40m-£50m bracket I was expecting the fee to be. He is a highly rated player from a divisional rival at a good age.

I just hope he can stay fit enough over the course of a season to have an impact.

Alternative framing: we're buying a player from a rival who they Ordinarily wouldn't sell, who significantly raises the floor of the squad and gives us a genuine alternative to Joelinton.

Completely agree with the injury concerns like.

Fairly quick ball carriers. Don’t score or assist a lot. Very injury prone (this is the main bit).

I trust the club's ability to identify targets enough that if we are buying him, I'll assume there's a good reason.

I trust the club's ability to negotiate prices maybe a little bit less  but oh well. If he comes in and contributes it doesn't really matter.

If he’s capable of doing big Joe’s role then it may be ok but it’s a big demand for someone with 1000 hamstring injuries in the last 4 years.

It wouldn't be, that's why we need one more really. But Ramsey certainly helps.

I'm reality there's probably no occasion that the "second choice" midfield all play together at the same time other than cup game against League One/Two teams.

Seems like folks at the club believe that injuries are down to luck as long as it's not an obvious chronic condition, so players with an "injury prone" reputation are typically undervalued.

I agree that makes sense on paper, but it does feel like tempting fate a bit.

Really good player. Obvious question marks over his fitness, but if that can be managed and he can stay fit he’s a cracking player.

Sits firmly in the bracket of “buying the dip”. Quality wise, a consistently fit Ramsay is more than £40m in today’s market (when you compare with some of the dross that’s going for that kind of price currently), so getting him in now with the hope of keeping him fit could leave us with a really good player on our hands.
