Yorkie
What's the theory for why we're signing this guy now then, given he's seemingly been available all summer and the first links were in May? Must be a reason for why we'd only pull the trigger at this late stage; especially with Longstaff having been gone nearly a month. Uncertainty over how much we'd be spending on a striker, or something else?
Shadow Puppets
Also, don’t be surprised if we also go for another midfielder… I know they’re looking for more than one.
Infinitely Content
I was a huge admirer of Ramsey back when he broke into the Villa team in c.2022 and became a first team regular. Technically brilliant, high energy and I remember him scoring some wonderful goals. A huge upgrade on both Willock & Longstaff as the 4th midfielder. I also wasn't too sold on these El Khannouss rumours, he was mostly played in left attacking midfield positions for Leicester and I don't see how a player of his stature and profile fits into our midfield 3 which requires a really well balanced, disciplined player to make it function. I believe Ramsey will be able fit in seamlessly whilst also offering something unique that none of our current starting 3 can.

RobsonsWonderland
Ok for perspective... Longstaff .... Ramsey Miggy... Elanga Dubs...Ramsdale Kelly... Thiaw Wilson... Wissa? We might not be improving the first 11 but the squad as a whole. Obvs there is a massive gap at the top.

I’m sure how mentioned how we’d be looking to be the ones benefitting this summer. They got themselves out of the hole, but now possibly need funds to do some deals between now and September, so have reluctantly agreed to deal. They just play a similar position. it’s not weird, they are similar players. Advanced midfielders who can score goals and carry the ball well, but aren’t generally involved build up much at all. If we go to the last season where both players played over 2000 minutes in the league for a decent representation, guess who was the most similar player to Joe Willock across eleventy hundred different metrics? In a rare non shit move UEFA don’t count any of that wank in their PSR stuff so might affect them that way. Already been fined once. Might have called Unai a greasy cunt and spat in his wet look? Now that I'm done being a cunt; Villa not being as pressed to sell earlier I guess makes the most sense. Like Thiaw, feel really enthused by him being a long-term target. Cathartic as fuck to see us make some progress.

It will be interesting to see what type of midfielder they bring in if there is another one. Between Joelinton and Ramsey you’d think that’s the LCM role kind of covered. So that leaves us with Bruno, Tonali and Miley for the other two spots. I still don’t know where they see Miley’s best spot long term, I personally feel he could be an excellent Tonali understudy as the base of a midfield but I can see the argument for him playing further up too. The other midfielder being a more advanced creative type might point to Miley being seen as the Sandro backup.
