He going to break the low block? Like a more left sided Maddison?

Not in the same way but hopefully he will, yep. Good at receiving the ball between the midfield and defence. Doubt he's as much of a wand of a passing foot as Maddison but he's more mobile and more dynamic.

Maddison was never a Howe player IMO, not without a real change in style.

Athleticism is crucial for Howe, hed rather sign someone athletically brilliant but technically imperfect, because he can do something with a player who can get about the pitch.

Thankfully, I think Ramsey is a nice blend.

Weve not improved our starting 11 this window (because of the Isak saga) but id find it hard to argue that we haven't improved the squad, quite significantly too.

Our finishing XIs should be much stronger though....... that counts IYKWIM

Try look at it this way. Football is no longer about starting XI. It’s about a team of 16 at your disposal to complete a game plan. Our 12-16 has greatly improved hopefully 🤞 Thats approx 35% of our first team. Not only that but raises the games of 1-11 who were getting comfortable (possibly).

Still over two weeks for more improvements… Second striker and maybe a rabbit out of the hat if opportunity presents itself.

This isn't aimed at your or Ramsey - more so I'm just thinking out loud - but when a team signs a player whos a little injury prone and people say, "he'll be good if they can keep him fit".... can anyone think of any player that suddenly no longer became injury prone after signing for a new team?

Demba Ba?

Elanga arguably does and Thiaw might one day, but I do agree with your point.

Having the ability to freshen the team up if we hit a stale period is massive for us.

We need that striker though. Give me Wissa for 30+ games and we are on for a decent season.

Maybe it's blind optimism, but I have a feeling this will turn out to be a great signing. The stereotyical story of a great but stagnated talent that just needed a new challenge to rejuvinate himself and take his game to the next level.

Take the Isak bit out and improving the squad should improve the starting 11 as we can afford to give players more of a rest and also switch up combinations a little.

With the number of holes we needed to fill this summer its the right approach, other than in a couple of positions improving on any of our 'first' 11 would cost big bucks

Oh I agree. The only thing that really hurts us is that when we go away to good sides, we needed that special killer in Isak but theres so little the club can do.

Wissa will certainly fill that void to a degree but hes no Isak.

Isak will be back against Wolves albeit on the bench IMO.

Good young player with bags of potential for a good price. We had lots of holes in the squad of various sizes and positions and I think we've (eventually) got around to plugging quite a few of them. I think Elanga instantly improves the first XI, demoting Murphy to the bench strengthens it, adding Thiaw to the pool of CBs is a strong move, likewise Ramsey for the CMs and Ramsdale to the GKs. It's not been a dramatic improvement and the CF situation needs to be the last priority to sort out but they've bought themselves a few weeks to get that into better shape. Wissa needs to get done asap and the snake needs to be put in his place

We've also moved a few players on who were unable to contribute anything to the squad last season for various reasons - Longstaff, Vlak, Wilson, Lewis, Hayden, Kelly etc. The squad is looking much better and consistent and I think we'll see the difference in the last 30 minutes of games this season. Too often the first XI were asked to go above and beyond because there was no decent options off the bench and it showed, Often we were hanging on towards the end of games but I'm hoping that'll be different this season.

The window was looking like an absolute disaster just 2 weeks ago but it was always salvage-able and they're well on the way to doing it, 1 maybe 2 more to come in after Ramsey at CF with plenty of time left. It's been a solid window so far

Friday noon but unlikely to be done in time apparently. Probably gentleman’s agreement.

Great post and completely agree. I think whether we get 1 or 2 in now completely depends on whether Isak stays. I don't see us bringing in another central midfielder, I think it was Ramsey or El Khannouss rather than both. Wissa is almost certainly going to sign, and I imagine we'll be laying the groundwork for our Isak 'replacement' in case he does leave.
