I normally shy away from the "well name someone!" question because that is the job of our scouting team, but considering the attributes Howe still insists our signings have and it being this late in the window, who is there? Realistically.

I'd rather we went for a punt tbh, but again not sure where that player is.

We are talking about 70m euro. I don't have time to watch anywhere as much football as I'd like to but i find it extremely difficult to believe no striker exists at that price range who is better than JSL.

We'll get rinsed for anyone at this stage, even clubs abroad will know we're desperate.

Odd. I'd rather get rinsed by Wolves than Chelsea or Brentford.

Don't think that Larsen is better than Wissa or Jackson. Don't know. I watch Wolves play twice a season.

This is what I'm saying sort of. Anyone 'better' outside the PL is a punt and a really risky one at this stage. That's getting towards what we were going to pay for Ekitike and Sesko. I feel like if that player exists we'd have much more of an awareness of them.

I know what your saying but let's take a step back. Wolves took the same punt and have doubled the money in one window.

Jonathan David legit went on a free this summer too

You were talking about the €70m range. JSL was more than half that. I agree that there'll be a lot more players in that range to take a punt on and I understand Howe's reluctance when we can't afford to fuck this up.

We're paying a premium to get as close as we can to a sure thing.

It's fair enough saying we can get better for 70m, but it's like putting 70m on evens, or at 3/1. Potentially much better return but substantially larger risk.

If Isak wasn't the world's biggest cockend we might be taking more of a risk, who knows, but I'm happy to just accept our situation at this point. Get someone safe for 15 goals and integrate Isak back into the squad through a series of beatings and hazing rituals.

Yeah that's my point. JSL is looking to cost about 70m euro. I'm sure we can find someone with equal ability with a higher ceiling in that bracket. Obviously that involves a degree of risk but it's the same risk wolves took when they brought in JSL themselves with the exception of our budget being higher than what they had.

I think it depends on what you expect this season mind. If you expect to finish in the champions league places again then I can see why someone might lump for JSL. That being said the next logical question is then does JSL guarantee that? If the answer is no then the risk is the same.

Agreed. If he's the one we've settled on, then just get it done. Paying an extra £20m isn't going to hinder us THAT much in the long-term. Certainly not as much as continuing this season with no striker will.

I’d still rather have Jackson for the fees being spoken about here

Chelsea would absolutely bleed us dry for Jackson, we're in direct competition with them.

Overpaying for a decent player isn't the end of the world.

Yes, it restricts us from buying a better one further down the line and ties up money in wages as we'll overpay there too. But we don't have a choice.

If we can reintegrate Isak, we'd have needed reliable cover anyway. And if we can't, then the striker needs to be someone proven. If we have to overpay 10 or even 20m on Strand Larsen or Wissa, just do it.

Don't think we will have to overpay in wages.

He will jump at the chance to come here and play CL.

I think that number is in Euros. Still exorbitant, but much cheaper than Jackson.

Isak staying doesn’t guarantee us finishing in the Champions League places either.

What we should be looking at is replacing the goals that we are going to post by Isak leaving, and whilst that can’t be guaranteed I would feel confident that between Strand Larsen and Wissa that we should cover that.

Yeah I make no mention of Isak he's irrelevant imo. He's done as far as im concerned.

It's why I'm curious as to what people's expectations are for this season, if your goal isn't champions League (I think it's beyond us this season tbh) then getting someone with a high ceiling in is the play.
