They likely started him on the bench to avoid compromising any deal with him getting any injury etc.

They could well be cheeky and add an extra £10 million to the fee after that, but we would likely counter that by arguing that with him now being cup tied that wouldn't be justified.

I think we will try right up to the deadline and look elsewhere. I am not convinced we get one in though. I just cant see us massively overpaying for anyone, which is what we will probably have to do.

Not sure who this is directed at but my position has always been we have to pay over the odds as we don’t have a striker. JSL scored 14 last season in a poor team and I’ve stated I’d be happy with him. 
 

Given that’s our situation then get on and pay what’s required as we won’t get better for less. Not signing a competent striker will be detrimental to our season and verges on negligence. Seeing as we were willing to pay larger fees for Etikite and Sesko the money is there so I fail to see why we’ve not met their asking.

It just means more delays and haggling at best. More likely they will decide he's not for sale after all, I mean his goals could well be the difference between survival and relegation. We really need to find a striker who we can get a deal done for without being told not happening 24hrs before the window closes.
