The referee will simply not allow us to win this game

This is my worry like, we could play the perfect game, nick one, defend like titans and the ref will just blow his whistle for something ridiculous and give them a penalty.

Second time we've played Barca with a Quarter-Final place at stake.

If Yamal remains a booking away from suspension from a potential QF I shudder to think what it'd take for him to get booked.

So I have an 8 out of 8 record in the new extension, do I try to continue that run and watch this one in there, or, save it for Sunday.

Those who don't know, I had a 10 games at SJB without a win until the Forest game, I take my jinx very seriously.

The opening post rams home just what a task this is. Can't in all seriousness predict a win but I know the lads will do us proud, and you never know.

Sat in the East Stand for nearly 20years on that back of superstition.

Having not seen us win from February-October I sat there and saw us win three on the bounce and Keegan came back a few month later too. Still haven't got credit for any of it.

I probably should not have checked to see what their home record is this year. Blissful ignorance would have made this much more enjoyable.

Howe breaks all sorts of records.

I spent a few minutes asking Claude what the biggest upset results in club history were:

Candidates were:

(1) 3-2 at home against Barcelona in 1997 CL

(2) 1-0 at home against Juventus in 2002 CL

(3) 5-0 at home against against Man United in 1996

(4) Last year's league cup final win

Given that this is away against a team that is close to unbeatable at home this year, if we get a result there's a fair argument that it's the club's greatest upset ever.

Cup final has the benefit of being a cup final but I never felt that we were that much worse than Liverpool.

Early lead in a game against a better opponent has worked how many times this season? We need to keep it tight for 93+ minutes before we score if we want to realistically be believeing we can hold onto a lead.

Literally the last game we played :coolsmiley:

The things we go through. Such a thankless task.

It can do you in - wondering about socks midmatch etc. So appreciate your taking full responsibility for this one.

Can’t wait for this but feels bittersweet. To think we may be out of Europe soon is gutting, love being in the CL and I don’t want it to end. Fucking come on

Was Barca really that much of an upset? We both qualified as the second place teams in our domestic league and Barca lost 3 of their 6 games in that group, only winning one (us at their place). They finished bottom of our group.

Will be extremely difficult, just looking at their home record. We need to be perfect in every aspect of the game for 90 mins and also have the margins on our side.

Dreading the reffing for this. If Barca needs it, they will get a soft pen or one of those Europa handball pens.

Tough game tactically for Howe, not sure what he should do. It will be a lot harder than the first leg.

Big question is whether he plays Tino or Trippier. I think the rest picks itself. I would pick Tino who is defensively stronger  We'll be under the kosh more in this one given how strong they are at home.

As for winning the tie, we do have weapons of our own. We have two in this 25/26 CL list. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man City have zero, but noone would say they lack threat.

Hope he takes the No1 spot.

Should be playing our best team if available.

Tino is a more effective player than Trippier nowadays and therefore should play. Harsh on Trips who has played so many games while Tino was injured but you have to be ruthless if you want to be winners.

However I suspect Trippier plays since he was rested for Chelsea.

Win this and it could possibly be our greatest result in our history - Knocking out Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the champions League.

Is it possible? I'd give us around 20% chance but Eddie has proven so many times in big cup games he comes up with the answers. Can't wait!

I can see us going with three centre halves for this. Last thing we want to do is be too passive, I don't think this should start out as one of our uber defensive set ups, I am think Arsenal second leg semi would be ideal. Can we keep Yamal quiet again for 90 mins. The bit of success they did have last week was from him.
