I think the actual issue here is, Gordon's replacement should have been signed before he was sold. So the worst case scenario is Liverpool bought Munoz 3 weeks ago and we have time to look elsewhere.

I said it wasn't happening and it was just because of the dragged out positive talks nonsense. As soon as 3 days hit, I had a strong feeling he wasn't coming. I gave it a week for optimism but after that, nah wasn't happening.

So in essence, we had positive talks, multiple positive talks, but Liverpool's positive talks were that little bit more positive. Hmm

Think it's more than positive talks, it sounds like 99% deal done. I'll just give the top 4 a quick ring before I sign.

But this is just negative bias happening to be true. We agreed the deal FFS

Another reason why this is going to wrangle with people is we have the structure in place now and this summer was meant to be different.

People remained relatively calm when we were snubbed by the kid who went to Brighton, I guess this is the one that breaks the camels back

Nah, if it was agreed then what else is "positive talks" about? Just sign it. As liverpool have proved, it's easily done.

Financial constraints, plus we still have plenty of time. Unfortunately with a chronically online society and desperation for a constant stream of rumours and news to keep relevant I just don't see how we get anything done quickly and quietly. Gone are the days of surprise announcements.

Fool me once, more fool you.

Fool me twice, more fool me.

Totally understand this happening, and as a one off then no fault on the club. But it keeps happening which indicates there’s something fundamentally wrong with how we’re approaching these transfers.

But he didn't want to sign it because he was waiting to see his options. And unfortunately a better one came up.

We can't put the lad and his agent in an isolation chamber until the paperwork is done.

"Positive talks" is just journo twitter language when they don't have news to report.

Devil's advocate here but we attempted that with Isak and it made literally no fucking difference. Not only did we fail to sign his replacement, but that replacement went to Liverpool and we still sold Isak to the very same club in the end anyway.

I hear you but what financial constraints are we talking about? If we know we are selling Gordon then we plan ahead of time.

Im not going to address the part about being online etc as it's not particularly relevant to the overall point of planning properly but I do know what you mean.

I mean, if we get Jaouen and Munoz done by mid June it's the best start to a window for years.

Fucking around on fees has cost us. We could have had this sorted 3 weeks ago. That was the point in selling early. We've done nothing with the supposed advantage. Saying Liverpool has always been in the background is bollocks. We should treat every deal like one of those cunts is ready to swoop, so we put aggressive offers down and get it signed. Pathetic by the club once again. The project is completely finished due to board level incompetence.

Bit dramatic. We got gazumped by a bigger fish. Put Savlon on the wound and move on.

We attempted to get his replacement in first? But we failed at that so we didn't even do that properly.

I think it kind of illustrates the point and demonstrates people unease tbh

I learnt from last season and will embrace the carnage rather than investing emotionally.

I said exactly this before, we need to conduct these negotiations much more carefully, make a good offer on our part, give a short grace period for signing, if not move on quickly and look for someone else. There's no need to dance around everyone here, the market is full of good players, we need to see how others do it and finally work hard.By the way, we have Hall, he's fast, he dribbles well, he sees the field well, we need to push him forward and we have Gordon's replacement

As annoying as it'll be for us rumour fiends, the club sources really just need to stop saying anything to any journalists at all for everyone’s good like.

I don't want to hear about any players, about how we're confident of getting someone, about how we're monitoring whoever. Just don't bother, don't want to hear it anymore.

Completely agree with this. Just get the deals done behind closed doors, as quietly as possible.

You can't stop the likes of Romano getting the info as it comes from the player's side, but whoever is briefing the likes of Ryder and Edwards needs to shut the fuck up.

We were also negotiating with Osasuna. Last week there was talks of negotiating with Real too. All that is wasting time.

If it were just Munoz stalling, we would've known he was using us to flush out a better deal.

Liverpool didn't negotiate with Osasuna. A big part in why this deal has been done quickly.

It’s still the right way to go though.

NUFC.com:

The whys and wherefores of this fruitless pursuit will no doubt be dissected (and invented) over the coming days, but this is anything but a good look for the Magpies as a crucial summer for the club and the manager unfolds.

Fair.

Yeah, so I'm not sure 'we should have got his replacement in first' has any more validity tbh. Gordon has gone and it went smoothly. I think, based on what happened with Isak, finding his replacement goes this way regardless of whether he's gone first or not, and the side effect of that is you have more drama around one of your own players all summer.

Can't pretend anything else.

Re:Isak -I understand the club genuinely went to his house to convince him to stay so i'm not sure we genuinely were out for his replacement.

I just mean buy before, buy after, everyone will find out before it happens anyway, I just don't see how we stop this. Plus, agents will always shop around for the best deal. Its just infuriating.

It does though, because we failed to do that and panicked in the worst possible way. 20% if our squad cost is big Nick and Wissa.

Relegation aside, the way we've used that money couldn't have gone worst. That tells me that what we did previously should be avoided at all cost.
