Iraola likely had some sway on this with the kid being Spanish.

We're also seeing similar with Tonali looking for the nearest Italian to go running off to.

Not too much representation from those regions at the club at the minute.

Football transfers sound really easy. Not sure why we aren't all working in that environment.
Make an offer, buy a player, have lunch.

I think everyone who states how a transfer should be done should begin with an example of major football transfers they have personally completed first.

You never had a lass give you the eyes all night and you’ve been buying her loads of drink, then at 1.55am the lights go on in the club and you spot her going home with Studley Goodfuck ?

It's not really the same.

We've spent time haggling with taxis trying to leave. If we pay the fucking rate, we know if she'she's serious or stalling. When she stalls, you go back to talking to other girls.

All those negotiations with Osasuna and even Real Madrid were a massive waste of time. Clearly a small cohort of people conduct our transfer business. We shouldn't waste their time over what was seemingly less than 5m euros. If we think this lad is a 70m euro talent, we have to move with conviction and quickly. If he stalls, we move on to the next.

Is this not true? https://metro.co.uk/2025/08/25/newcastle-chiefs-turn-alexander-isaks-house-bid-resolve-transfer-saga-23996707/

We didn't plan on getting an Isak replacement. Everything I read suggested we planned to keep him. The strikers we tried to sign were Wilson replacements. Isak leaving is why we have 2 panic strikers rather than just 1.

So late in the window though. They should have had direct talks with him as soon as he didn't turn up to the pre season stuff

I think we should have made a good offer that was still within our reach and said that either he would accept it within a few days or we would move on. This should have been done in a short time and it would have been clear what they were playing for. These things should have been handled much more professionally, quickly, decisively. If a player doesn't want to come, he should be left behind quickly.

I guess, but it's still very early in the window and we thought everything was agreed. Then it was only a 24hr delay while he agreed to sign for Liverpool

He probably did want to come, he just discovered he could come to the PL for more money to a bigger club.

Completely agree with this. Just get the deals done behind closed doors, as quietly as possible.

You can't stop the likes of Romano getting the info as it comes from the player's side, but whoever is briefing the likes of Ryder and Edwards needs to shut the fuck up.

Brighton and Villa always seem to be fairly discreet and professional in their dealings. Nine times out of ten, it’s just boom and player announced.

If they can do it there’s literally no reason we can’t.

It was notable how quiet all the journalists were on this deal yesterday. When it wasn’t done Monday/Tuesday after the Spain game you sensed the agent and player was up to something.

Not sure if that's true of if we just don't follow the news about their signings.

What did they do wrong?

Haggling over £2m over the last 1-2 weeks when he had an active release clause. Worst case scenario, we give ourselves 2 extra weeks to land an alternative.

Truthfully, I don't think Liverpool could've hijacked the deal if we activated the clause 2-weeks ago. They only brought in Iraola 2-weeks ago.

That's exactly right, if he doesn't want to come, we'll throw it away and not wait for him to choose something else. It's a waste of time and we'll also be discrediting ourselves.

Maybe, I just feel like we agreed a deal in a relatively short amount of time anyway. Everything was in place, the lad just wanted to see if there was an even better option.

But how do you establish that? Mind reading?

My point is all the links to the other strikers weren't to replace Isak. We had no plans to sell Isak.

The idea of "top targets should ne brought in before pre-season there's no excuses this summer" which I've read all over twatter is naive BS imo.

Any player that's in demand with an agent worth their salt will be happy to wait to see if a cart£l club is coming in and/or they can get CL football elsewhere before committing.

Have a list of different options and be in active negotiations simultaneously with their clubs/agents.

Seems a bit pointless to start threads about players who don’t play for us, full stop.

That’s my view.

I agree sometimes threads are made way too early but starting a thread of a deal that is definately in the works stops the rumours thread getting clogged up with pages of the one player
