He's a bit old to be given the 'potential' tag, he'll be 28 before the season finishes. As I've said in another thread, Distin or Ben Heim. Really? God... never knew that. Distin would be alright i suppose. I used to think he was a bit of a donkey at Man City, and i still think he is capable of being so, but he's a leader at the back with expereince - and he was popular here before. Ben Haim would be great, but Bolton would never sell him. We won't get Lucas Neill either... Moritz Volz - £2m Sylvain Distin - £3m Wayne Bridge - £3m Mark Viduka - £2m David Nugent - £4m ... is more realistic and wouldn't be so terrible in my opinion. ........if we can find £14m to spend, which will probably mean selling a couple of players and borrowing the rest Well, if the original rumours about Neill, Upson, Bridge, Davies and Nugent were true, we'd have to spend more than £14m.

How many of these 'Toon Ultras' are there?

Shame really, i like Upson. Great potential, but as has been said, we're looking for a bit more than that right now. He's got Premiership experience though, and was a key figure for Birmingham when they weren't shit. Where are we going to find a decent, experienced centre-back in the Premiership, for a non-extortianate fee? Lost, really.

Does he mean the supporters think the club's bigger than we are? Or does he mean the supporters think the supporters are bigger than we are? If it's the first one, he's right in some cases. If it's the second one, he needs to... well... get fucking fucked the fucking cunt.

Anyone that thinks he has any place on a football pitch at ANYONES expense doesn't have a ****ing clue about football or any eyesight whatsoever. Top scorer tbh. Aye, exactly. Reknowned for being a big goalscoring team this season, aren't we. If he hadn't played this season... that's 5 goals less isn' t it. He was second only to Shearer in the scoring charts n'all. And it's been like that for a few seasons.

Our top scorer is out for the season (alledgedly). Great news!
-
Shola's not out for the season, but he will be when he has his hip operation. THAT'S what Roeder said.

Maybe these are the sort of players we should be going after nowadays. We've blown millions of pounds on foreigners and alledgedly-brilliants who just haven't worked out. Your Fergusons, your Vianas, your Luques, your Marcelinos, your Guivarchs, your Martins (some might say) - and they just don't work. You look at the squad Keegan built and the budgets he had. Andy Cole, prime example, cost £1.75m and look what he did for us! Maybe these are the sort of players we should be going after? People such as Davies and Nugent and Upson, who have experience and quality yet still have a lot of fire in their belly. You look at the likes of Wigan and Portsmouth and Bolton and Reading who have built good teams on these sort of budgets, and have got very far and done well. Nugent's got class in my eyes anyway - a key figure in a very good Preston side this year. I think that there's every chance that we've got another Andy Johnson or Darren Bent here, as apposed to a Gzegorsz Rasiak for instance. He's young and i bet he'll turn into a damned good player. I rate Matthew Upson aswell, as i've said before. When he was in the Premiership he was always one of those just on the brink of the England squad. Plenty of decent attributes, just well down the pecking order. Those guys could improve our squad no end. Unfortunately, we ain't quite got the manager to turn them into brilliant players... a la Keegan-Cole.

Nah, i'm sure Charlton actually tried to buy Parker back at one point.
-
We could be bottom come the end of next weekend. If Sheffield United beat us and Charlton beat Man City, i think that would put us bottom...
-
What's it like habing to wear pink every time you go to a football match?
-
Would love it if we got Nugent. But i think i'd rather have Viduka than Kevin Davies... besides - i doubt Sam Allardyce would sell him and i doubt he would come to us. I'd be shocked if we didn't go back in for Viduka... he hasnm't been brilliant this season and his contract runs out at the end of the year. Boro will want to get £1/2m for him while they can. I've been raving about Nugent for ages. Great player and would be well chuffed if we got him. Bridge, Upson and Neill would be an insanely good improvement on our defense.

Yes, it's beginning to kick in. Not as bad as it was under Souness, i was very apathetic back then, it just got the state where i didn't care. Worryingly, the recent results are worse than those under Souness. I can feel more angry though now because i know we're capable, whereas under Souness we never were. And i'm angry because of the way we are losing. Plus, we've got a manager who's decisions and comments make me livid.
-
Probably a combination of momentum, confidence, Shearer hitting the 201, the relief of Souness leaving, etc. Oh and yeah - a better team.
-
D'you think he's "lost interest" post the transfer deadline day shenannigans? Not in the slightest.
-
Not finished. Good for the first hour, and on his day, he's still one of the most creative players in our squad. He should be played more sparingly, though. Good thing with Nobby is that you're guaranteed a ball into the box. First thing Milner did when he came on was beat his man, then play a pathetic low ball that hit the first Charlton player in his eyeline. And that's what you're guaranteed with Milner nowadays.
-
He probably should have scored but the ball came at him very quickly and he still had to turn and volley it goalwards. He was unlucky. While we're at it... what does IIRC mean?
-
He kicked himself Did he? OK, moving on.
-
I didn't see Duff's penalty claim until this evening and well, i've seen them given. Wasn't stone wall but i think he had a good case. I mean - he was through on goal and had every chance of scoring - why exactly would he dive. Plus, there is definitely contact there. I think that's a penalty.

I'm not saying he should slag them off. We weren't crap, we weren't shit - i refuse to say that we were, and i blame the manager more so for the draw than the players. We ran out of ideas eventually and he didn't change it; Charlton brought on a defender so we should have coutnered that by bringing on an attacker - which he didn't. I'm not blaming the players for that. I'm drifting off the point though... Roeder shouldn't slag them off, he should tell them the truth. The truth was - that performance was not good enough and it bemuses me how he can be satisfied with that. Telling them that they're shit won't help them... telling them that they are better than what they gave today, will. His post-match comments just narked me altogether. He criticises the team for not scoring a goal, then in his next interview he claims that his strikers were superb. :?

I'm sorry... so? :?
