The College Dropout
Seems crazy we've stuck with him considering how much money we were willing to invest to stay up. Probably more likely to stay up with a different manager than signing a raft of new players. I don't think the squad is great. But we'll need an extra 10-15% out of the players to sta y up? I'm sure there's another manager that could've acheived that.
Paully
http://www.true-faith.co.uk/match-preview-everton-v-newcastle-united-goodison-park-03feb16-ko-19-45-pm-premier-league/ The euphoria of the performance against West Ham was sufficiently punctured by McClaren who played an unnecessary, mental formation. The team was playing well 4 4 1 1, and McClaren changed it to counter the threat of Deeney and Igahlo – who scored 4 goals between them against us in 3 games. Well done Steve. Please lets go back to normal against this lot. McClaren simply can’t set a team up away from home. It was his downfall with England. One goal and one point from Russia, Croatia and Israel away in qualifying. Or not qualifying as it turned out. At Boro there were two seasons in which his sides scored 12 (twelve) goals in 19 away league games. Twelve! His average away goals tally at Middelsborough was 17. In 19 games. It’s not good enough. Newcastle United’s major problem last season was our away form. We won just 3 out of 19 away games last season. Only QPR managed less. So who did Charnley and Carr hire to arrest this slump away from home? The man who’s away record in England at the highest level is a disaster. What a surprise we’re heading for relegation

HawK
I reckon there's a strong chance he's gone a bit senile and thinks he's managing England again and needs to bring the fringe players through, first step into the club.

Optimistic side of me says 4 points from the next 4 games which would be us on 25 points from 27 games.

Then you've got a run of games where you really need to pick up some serious points.

I mean there's no reason McClaren can't or won't guide us to safety, I just think a better manager with the players we have it's a forgone conclusion. With McClaren it's going to be a struggle to the very end I think.
Disco
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-news-live-steve-10823707 So here’s a bite-sized summary of McClaren’s press conference (the TVs bit). Seydou Doumbia is ‘touch and go’ for the Everton game. Newcastle are still waiting to hear about his visa. He’ll definitely be eligible for Saturday. Saido Berahino bid showed Newcastle’s “ambition”, according to McClaren. It would have been a “bonus” if it’d have come off. McClaren “delighted” with January. Says there’s a spring in the step of the players. Jack Colback is ‘close’ to being fit. Paul Dummett’s fine. Kevin Mbabu and Massiado Haidara are a month away from fitness. Andros Townsend will feature at some point at Goodison Park, probably from the start. McClaren now believes NUFC have a “very good squad”. No excuses, then.... Mole_Toonfan
I personally think we only played 5 at the back against Watford because of no LB, if Dummett is back then he'll go back to the standard 4-4-1-1.
TRon
He doesn't really have anywhere to hide now, he's spent more in 6 months than other managers have in 6 years. There's more than enough quality in that squad to be picking up points from every game we play. He's going to have a strong bench as well if he can grow a pair and use it before the 89th minute. Martin O'Neill always made sure to use his subs mid way through the second half, Brummie knows, I guess that makes him a stormin' manager Subbing for subbing sake is obviously retarded, I respect managers who make changes at half time and react to changing tactical situations, opposition subs. However you look at it, at the time, in most people's eyes, there was no question of anyone preferring McClaren over Garde. Regardless of how you gauge each of their records. In my books, what he did with Lyon was far better than what McClaren's achieved and at least it was someone younger and on the up and up, as opposed to someone who'd been sacked from Derby.
