Then he'd have them drilled in formation all year, refuse to let them go to away games, and Middlesbrough and Sunderland fans would start to mysteriously(?) disappear only to show up years later declaring their loyalty to the Toon. Watch this supposed sale drag on all summer, we'll be left in the lurch and have to appoint a fuck temp manager, someone like Dave Bassett will be appointed and we'll start the loop again. June 2nd, 2009 by Ed Harrison · 54 Comments When we wrote our article this morning on the Sultan of Oman, we were a little puzzled why no information was coming up - but we’ve found out that the name was not accurate, although we did have the right picture of the Sultan up. sultan-of-oman His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Here are some details we’ve been able to get: Personal Background The Sultan of Oman is Qaboos bin Said Al Said GCB GCMG GCVO who was born November 18, 1940 in Salalah. We suppose he gets Qaboos Bin Said for short. He rose to power after overthrowing his father, Sa‘id ibn Taymur, in a coup d’état in 1970, and if the 14th descendant of the Al Bu Sa‘idi dynasty. He is the only son of Sultan Sa‘id bin Taymur and is one of the 8th generation of the Al Bu Sa‘idi dynasty. He received his primary and secondary education in Salalah and at Pune, India and attended a private educational establishment in England from the age of sixteen. At 20 he entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. After graduating from Sandhurst, he joined a British Infantry regiment, The Cameronians, and served in the 1st Battalion in Germany for one year. He also held a staff appointment with the British Army. After his military service, Sultan Qaboos studied local government subjects in England and, after a world tour, returned home to Salalah where he studied Islam and the history of his country. In 1976 Qaboos ibn Sa‘id married his cousin, Kamila, née Sayyidah Nawwal bint Tariq (born 1951), daughter of HH Sayyid Tariq ibn Taymur,[4] but the marriage soon ended in divorce. He has no children, and rumors about his personal life may have affected his authority. Qaboos ibn Sa‘id is an avid fan and promoter of Newcastle United classical music. His 120-member orchestra has a high reputation in the Middle East. The orchestra consists entirely of young Omanis who, since 1986, audition as children and grow up as members of the symphonic ensemble. They play locally and travel abroad with the sultan. Argentine composer Lalo Schifrin was commissioned to compose a work entitled Symphonic Impressions of Oman[7] and is particularly enthusiastic about the pipe organ. The Sultan’s birthday, 18 November, is celebrated as Oman’s national holiday. For six years prior to Said bin Taymur’s overthrow, Qaboos experienced virtual house arrest in the royal palace of Salalah. Political System in Oman The political system which Qaboos established is that of an absolute monarchy. Unlike the situation in neighboring Saudi Arabia, Qaboos’ decisions are not subject to modification by other members of Oman’s family. Government decisions are said to be made through a process of decision-making by “consensus” with federal, provincial, local and tribal representatives, though critics allege that Qaboos exercises de facto control of this process. More recently, Qaboos has allowed parliamentary elections (in which women have voted and stood as candidates) and pledged greater openness and participation in government. As yet, however, this parliament lacks substantial political power. Qaboos’ supporters point to his relative success in governing the country. By Persian Gulf standards, Oman boasts good public order (it is an extremely safe country), middling prosperity (given its level of oil revenues) and a relatively permissive society. Since he acceded to the throne, Oman has broadened international relations, allowed newspapers, established high schools, built highways, opened hotels and shopping malls and spends a substantial portion of its dwindling oil revenues on health care and education. But I do know about Arabs and not just from the nativety play tea towel incident. Im one of those exploited foreign workers, who has his flights paid, salary tax free, accomodation free, kids education paid for, and a driver, and an enforced compulsary paid 2 months leave to prevent "stress". bastards they are for exploiting me like that. What i can tell you about arabs is that they are impatient bastards and status mad. NUFC have no profile in the middle east just as portsmouth and man city didnt have, but the Premier league has a massive profile which is why all these stupidly rich arabs are throwing cash at it, its the latest must have and anyone in the middle east wants a piece just to try and prove they are the wealthiest. So trying to convince an arab consortium to buy a non premier league club regardless of the size is virtually impossible, they would rather buy one of the newly promoted teams and throw wedge at it than be associated with a second tier team. Sorry but thats the truth. I say virtually because there are some consortiums out there who have not got the funds they claim to have, they want the status without the wedge, and they may attempt a purchase of NUFC in attempt to increase their social standing. Most likely there is a UK consortium making Ashley a low offer, he has "leaked" this arab rumour to panic push the price up to the UK consortium. Dont anyone get your hopes up because it isnt going to happen. And if it does it will be a disaster in terms of funds, arabs are ruthless bastards expect the club to loaned up to the hilt and the cash to disappear. Amen. The Sultan of Oman was immediately linked with them due to his wealth but doubt has been cast upon his involvement. It has been suggested that the business environment today is more favourable than when the club was put on the market for the first time by Ashley last September. Then the asking price started at £300m and dropped swiftly to £180m. But although there was interest, there were no takers.
