Messi and Ronaldo take the piss out the Champions League each year as well. I think it's a bit daft when you score as ridiculously consistently as those two do to think they'd suddenly stop when they have to play the likes of Hull and Swansea every week. Even the top sides like City look unable to keep a clean sheet, the standard of defending is just really average.

I still want to know what school the kids went to given that the derby was in August. Same when he says loads of kids bunked off school to see his unveiling.

Previous convo: Suarez hit 30 goals in his last season at Liverpool, he's continued in the same vein in La Liga. Ronaldo was yet to peak before moving to Real and he also managed it. Bale too has a similar ratio.

Then you look at the likes of Torres, Ibra & Aguero whose record are identical or better in PL than in Spain.

Then you look at their record in the CL (Messi and Ronaldo). It's only arrogance that would lead someone to suggest in their primes they couldn't consistently manage 30 PL goals. They're proven a level above the competition throughout their careers.

I'm not sure if this was ever stated on here. I think it was questioned whether they would get the same ratio in the PL as they have in Spain.

By the way I think Shearer would get 18 + league goals per season today consistently whether he was playing for the mackems or Watford, that's how good he was.

Might it not depend who he was playing for as I'd reckon he'd score loads more for Chelsea/Man City than he would for West Brom. Same goes for Ronaldo/Messi, I don't think they'd be as prolific at Gijon or Las Palmas.

Hate the fact he was and always will be my childhood hero but now writes for The S*n.

Not as if he needs the dollar, and as a working class lad from a city embraced by football he should know what Liverpool went through because of that dirty fucking rag and tell them to fuck off.

Easier to perform in Champions League every now and then when the standard of half the La Liga means it's effectively a training match for the likes of Real and Barca.

Totally agree, I really wish he would jack it in, I can't respect him when he writes for such a vile rag. Like you said its not like he needs the money.

5th top story on BBC news front page is about Big Al

Alan Shearer was given negligent financial advice, the High Court in London has been told.

The 46-year-old former England and Newcastle star, now a Match of the Day pundit, is suing for £9m in damages.

He claims financial advisor Kevin Neal was "careless" and "dishonest", while pension specialist Suffolk Life had breached its regulatory duties.

Both Suffolk Life and Mr Neal dispute the claims, with Mr Neal describing them as driven by "pure greed and ego".

Mr Shearer is also suing two defunct companies - Kevin Neal Associates and Kevin Neal Associates Wealth Management.

'Serious money'

The barrister leading Mr Shearer's legal team, Gerard McMeel, said the claims centred on pension investments.

In a written case outline, he said his client had "limited knowledge or experience" of making investments and he and his wife Lainya relied on professional advisers and "those with responsibility to look after their interests".

Javan Herberg, representing Suffolk Life, said Mr Shearer and his advisers were responsible for their investment decisions.

He said the Mr Shearer's claims that Mr Neal had "effectively swindled" the couple required some investigation.

Mr Neal, who is defending himself, said the Shearers had made "serious money" out of one investment fund.

'Gung-ho'

He said it was for the judge, Mr Justice Leggatt, to decide whether the Shearers were "naive" or "sophisticated" investors.

Mr Neal said the Shearers had "pushed" him to put more money into one fund, and he had not been "gung-ho", but had "acted in good faith at all times".

He added: "This claim is just driven by pure greed and ego."

In his 18-year playing career Shearer made more than 600 appearances for clubs including Newcastle, Southampton and Blackburn, and won more than 60 England caps.

The trial continues.
