jdckelly
Ridiculous to even give ONE page to talking about what the Mackems think - I don't care what they think and frankly, the only time I bother about them is when we play them. As I said about Fulham, they are CURRENTLY more successful than us because they are in the Prem but ir doesn't make them a bigger or better club because our record over the last 16 years is much better than theirs. Whether they are a BETTER-RUN club than us will be seen over the next year or so because if we struggle in the Prem and they don't it shows that they have backed their manager in the market. If NUFC give Hughton the right financial support, we have every chance of equalling or bettering their performance. End of story - more concerned with catching the likes of Villa & Everton frankly. one step at a time, surival and consolidation first then start looking further upwards
Village Idiot
There wasn't a problem though, they were very good together. Fair enough, I only say this out of the match reports I read back then, I'll bow to people that actually watched them play.
nobby_solano
Kluivert makes our top ten list too Kluivert Why didn't you keep him? Did he want to leave, or was it the club's decision? I followed him in the year he played for you and I thought he did reasonably well given the clueless managing. i'm sure souness around the time his fallout with bellamy was playing an injured kluivert up front with shearer instead of bellamy. i still think we should have kept him on personally, he got 14 goals, which was only 3 shy of oba martins' best scoring season for us

What's the difference between a better club, and being more successful? I'm failing to see the difference. I'd agree you are a bigger club than Fulham, yes. Doctor Zaius
I loved Kluivert. Especially during his Barca days, I was only fairly young when we signed him so I remember being dead excited. He was very lazy however he did show some touches of class. I think if he'd played under Robson we'd have seen more of the class tbh, definately. Under Souness, despite scoring 14 goals in his debut season, he underperformed a little, as did the rest of the team. I think we should have kept him, however his wages, our failure to qualify for Europe and him playing a part in what was a season that failed to live up to (realistic) expectations played a part in him seeking pastures new. It's a shame because he was certainly a massively talented guy, infact I'd go as far as saying he's probably one of the most talented players we've had in recent times. I just think that under Robson, we'd have seen more of the sheer class from Kluivert that we unfortunatly only seen in spells here.
