cubaricho
How can a player really not say no? I think it's ridiculous that he would be forced to go, even if he personally didn't want to go.
Dave
How can a player really not say no? I think it's ridiculous that he would be forced to go, even if he personally didn't want to go. He wouldn't be forced to go, he'd be prevented from playing for us. Oh, and he did want to go.

loki679
Well that went well. Not only will we still lose Shola for January, we seem to have managed to piss off the Nigerian FA and make ourselves look a bit silly in the process. This club ffs. timeEd32
We have the worst relationship with international FA's. Not surprised given the attitude of those at the top. Some fucking depth would help since we wouldn't be so desperate in all these situations, but obviously that's not an option.

Dr Venkman
I wouldn't assume us not wanting Shola to go = Ba is definitely off like. We can't afford to lose Shola as it is.
Cajun
Looks like we have massively ballsed up but the international thing is ridiculous.

JH
Regardless, it's a stupid fucking rule anyway. It's ridiculous, especially given the wages that football clubs pay players these days, that they have zero power. If we want to keep our player, we have every right to. Fuck international football tbh.

Zero
What about "retired from international football" then? Say if a player announced that publicly, and if he's called up to the squad, could the player refuse to join?

Say if a player announced that publicly, and if he's called up to the squad, could the player refuse to join? Even if they've 'retired' they can still be called up. The retirement thing is more like a gentleman's agreement where the player asks not to be called up and the association won't call him up even though they retain the right to. It's ridiculous, especially given the wages that football clubs pay players these days, that they have zero power. If we want to keep our player, we have every right to. Fuck international football tbh. its coming to a stage quickly where the clubs (european ones anyway) are starting to fight back significantly against international football and with FIFA and UEFA (through the mouth of its dictator Platini) saying the world cup should be in the middle of the season for the one in Qatar and the major clubs are not going to go along with that so easily. Back on topic the one thing I really don't get is why the hell is the ACN on every 2 years (never mind the fact its on one year after the other this time) when the norm for the majority of major sporting tournaments is every 4 years.
