biggs
Think our play will change dramatically when Marveuax comes in as he will hopefully give an end product and open up our play bringing our forwards in more ,early days but not much change on last season playing style wise but that will change hopefully . TRon
Otter, I think what we saw yesterday was largely due to a crappy pre-season. We sold Enrique without a replacment, said to be coming in this week. This meant we were vulnarable at left back and Jonas has developed no understanding with said left back yet. It's the first time Tiote and Cabaye have played together in the middle of the park meanning they're no where near close to developing an understanding, hence both constantly dropping deep.. As well as this Ba looked completely short of match practice. This led to a dis-jointed display where we struggled to link up particularly well. I think we'll improve given time but it just goes to show how important game time is in pre-season. Hopefully. I think yesterday we reaped the rewards of a shambles of a pre season. What annoyed me was that one of the few positives of the pre season was Vuckic and he was nowhere to be seen. It annoys me that Vukic isn't more invloved tbh. Even in the Carling Cup game against Arsenal last year he looked one of our best players on the day yet he constantly gets overlooked despite being one of the few players in the current squad with a eye for goal. Bit worrying that he is overlooked when he had a really good pre season and scored goals and yet yesterday nowt when he could have made an impact . Guest BooBoo
Especially given that Lovenkrands was tediously and pointlessly called upon, despite having nowt to offer in such a game.
ExiledGeordie
Otter, I'm a grimly realistic fan depressed with the Ashley regim but calm down it's the first game of the season man, lol
oldtype
We needed two strikers on the bench, he's not a striker. I'm confident he'll get a few chances over the course of the season
LoveItIfWeBeatU
Maybe Pardew will be more comfortable picking and playing Vuckic and Sammy against non top 4 teams? Fergie fielded a few of his kids against West Brom. Will he do the same against the top 6 teams? Too many judgements are being made on one game against one of the best passing teams in the world. midds
Especially given that Lovenkrands was tediously and pointlessly called upon, despite having nowt to offer in such a game. He's got nothing to offer us full stop imo. The fact he's still getting a game despite younger players (thinking Vuckic) impressing in pre-season is disgraceful. Cut the strings and let him go ffs. We've got some players with the potential to be much better than Lovenkrands has ever been but can't get a place in the matchday squad because of him*. *Not his fault he gets picked. Yorkie
Got to say, the Vuckic thing was pretty scandalous. Weren't we trying to flog Lovenkrands but a few days ago? Wtf does that say to the lad (who scored three in pre-season and put his absolute heart and soul into every minute he was on the pitch)? Yesterday would be enough to disillusion me tbh. Seriously hope it doesn't happen next week because he's an infinitely better option than Lovenkrands.

Mick
I'm going to give Pardew a few games to see how things settle down before having a go at his selection and tactics. Once we see that players are not doing it on the pitch and still getting picked then I'll slag him off, of course it might not happen.
lovejoy
The 'new style of play' needs to be given some time IMO. I certainly won't be judging him on the first game of the season against arsenal. Nor the derby for that matter.

Guest BooBoo
Pardew's script for Friday's pre derby press conferance has leaked: On the game- They don't get any bigger in this part of the world. Last year's game at the Stadium of Light was one of the best atmosphere's I've experienced. We were very very unlucky not to take the 3 points and we'll be looking to put that right. Make no mistake, we'll be going for the win. On the likely team- Marveaux played exceptionally well on Wednesday in a specially arranged friendly and he'll be a possible for the bench. We didnt see the best of Demba last weekend and of course, there's something about these games that brings the best out in Shola. I've got options and that's pleasing. On incomings- It's been a frustrating week. We're dealing with teams who have been involved in Europe this week and obviously that's been their priority. I wanted to bring in at least one new player this week but for a number of reasons it hasnt happened. We're close now to the business end of the window and whilst there's a lot of movement, the selling clubs hold all the cards. Its exceptionally difficult to conclude good deals at this time of the year. The squad's short of a left back, I know that. I was delighted though with Ryan against Arsenal, he was up against a great winger in Gervinho and he was exceptional. Young Fergie is back too so I have options. I do want a replacement in for Jose, but if we can't do a deal then its comforting that we have those options. On strikers- As I say, Shola's been chomping at the bit this week, he's up for it. I think Leon, Demba and Peter will all benefit from another week of training. They're getting there in terms of fitness. Nothing imminent in terms of a new striker but as mentioned, it's tricky. We're exploring a few options and will explore the loan market if needs be. On outgoings- Nothing imminent but if i'm honest I think we'll see one or two more leaving in addition to Fraser.
